YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING

Knoxville, TN

#1 Jun 22, 2010
Have you ever noticed how some of the people that work on the ambulances in this county look like they just woke up. Hair messy, mix matched uniforms, wrinkly shirts, and pants: Yes, of course I want someone who looks like he can barely dress and clean himself to take care of me when I'm dying. Not! I'll be sure to drive across the county line before dialing 911.

um the ambulance ppl are on duty for 24 hours straight or more ...I probably would look like $hit too...as long as there doing there job and saving lives nothing else should matter...I dont believe anyone who just had a car accident or something will say..."eh What the Hell happened to your hair and uniform??" Like I said as long as there doing there job NOTHING else matters...

I totally agree...Last time I checked it wasnt a prerequsite to wear all neat and pressed uniforms to save a life.Let me guess you were a on looker who had no business being there and were probably in the way. If you think its such an easy job why dont you do it ??? You probably dont have the balls to do it cause I bet you're to worried about keeping your hair in place...Thanks GRAINGER COUNTY AMBULANCE SERVICE...you are appreciated !!

Let me tell you something, you will NOT find more dedicated EMS workers than the ones we have here in Grainger County!!!! Grainger County does NOT have the funds that some of the other counties have to provide them with BEAUTIFUL uniforms!!! Its NOT the uniform that makes a great Medic...its their training, their hearts and the love and passion they have for helping/saving peoples lives!!! ALL of which EVERY Grainger County EMS workers have. I have worked with the men & woman of the Grainger EMS and their job is NOT as easy as you might think. The things they do and have seen would gross most people out and make them sick!!! They work 24 hour shifts and lose sleep to take care of the people of Grainger County without any complaints. Its NOT just a job to them its their life!! They put their life in danger EVERYDAY for The people of Grainger County!! YES I said "DANGER" when they go on a call they have no clue what they are going to come face to face with...There are people with diseases, people vomiting on them, spitting on them, hitting them or worse. Let you or one of your family members need them and your attitude will change FAST!!!!! I am working on going to EMT school and would PROUDLY work for and with the Grainger County EMS!!!! THANK YOU to ALL Grainger County EMS for NOT worring about your hair or clothing!!! Most of all THANK YOU for doing a WONDERFUL job of taking care of ALL of the Grainger County citizens!!!

I'm more concerned that they work 24 hour shifts than I am about their appearance. Are they awake this entire time? Please clarify this is possible.

Give me a break! Are you so stupid that you think they sit there for 24 hours without getting some sleep? Do you think they sit there by the phone/radio...hand over the microphone/receiver just waiting for it to ring or receive a call? Of all the questions/comments I've seen on Topix, and I've read some doozies, this has to be the least intelligent question I've ever read! " Are they awake this entire time? " NO, you moron, they do maintenance on their equipment, train, learn new techniques to help US, and SLEEP LIKE THE REST OF US! PLEASE people, show a little intelligence in your posts!

BALONEY! How about you look at the roads Rural Metro has to travel. How about you look at the number of units and personnel they provide in their service. Could it be that their response time is greater...if it really is....is because they have more stations in more areas with more people making them CLOSER to the calls? STATE LAW REQUIRES THEY STOP IN AT THE NEAREST HOSPITAL! I'll bet if they pass by Jefferson Memorial to take your family member on to Knoxville and something happens because they didn't stop by Jefferson Memorial for a doctor to look at your family member you would be there the next moringin with your lawyer and a big lawsuit because they didn't. Again, a less than intelligent post/comment. Again, think before you type. You must be the child of the MORON above!

When I see the words "work" and "on duty" I don't think of sleeping being included. Maybe they are "on call". It seems to me you've gotten your feathers ruffled much like your hair and uniform, "are you a moron".

First of all I wouldn't call a ambulance in the first place never have and never will they cost too much when you use them and if you dont have insurance you are screwed and second I had a relative that has been transported and he was able to tell them he wanted to go to fortsanders so they took him And no I am a die hard fortsanders patient I wouldn't sue just get me to the hospital of my choice thats why I carry a card in case of emergancy with that info on it....and in my opion if it something bad happened to one of family I would get in the car and haul butt they might be gone waiting around for the ambulance to get here or find the place

I've heard they all sleep around with each other over there too. But that's with any EMS from what I've seen.

That's entirely the problem....YOU DON'T THINK! My suggestion is that you put on one of those wrinkled uniforms and mess up your hair a little and give 24 hours a try. Am I a moron? Compared to you, I would make Albert Einstein look stupid!

Anger issues? Mental problems? Now where did you get that one? No help needed here! How about you? ARE YOU A MORON? If so, you have a ton of siblings posting on Topix with you!

What is your problem? Why did one simple question send you over the edge? I can tell you're pretty smart because of the mechanics and grammar usage in your posts, but I don't understand how my first post upset you. I was just wondering how they could be expected to work 24 hours straight. That is too important of a job to do for that amt of time. I just wanted to understand.

My apologies. That's just it....they have to pull a 24 hour shift. If they get no calls, they get plenty of rest. Other times, they get one call after the other. Pretty darned good bunch of people in my book.

ok....look....you people have no idea what you are talking about. all it would take is one day in their shoes and you would change your mind. I have seen it first hand. I have been around this type of work for many years and have every intentions on going to school for EMT and working for this wonderful county in which I live. Yes, they pull 24 hour shifts and sometimes never receive a call, but if you were needing an ambulance and nobody was there, what would you think then???? Would you want to wait on Rural-Metro to come get you? or would you want someone who knows this county and loves this place to be there for you? Do you really think these people would do this if they didn't love it and the people they serve in this county? All I ask is that you think about what one day in their shoes would be like. YOU HAVE NO IDEA!!!!!!!!!!

Oh goodness...being on duty for 24 hours in grainger county. Oh the humanity! Haha. Being in the shoes of grainger county ems employees is a lot different than other counties. In other counties, when sent on a priority 1 or 2 call (difficulty breathing, chest pain, bleeding, car accident) you only have 1 minute to go responding. If it takes you longer, the bosses will say something. In grainger county, though you are only supposed to take a minute, most of the time it takes at least 3-4. Then it takes another 5 or more to look it up in the map book. And yes they sleep all day, so of course they look like they've just woken up. But quit complaining county tax payers, you get what you pay for. And with not a lot of money, you get people that sleep all day in tshirts instead of polos.

Don't get me wrong, your post is almost correct. They do have training (lecture, not hands on and not every shift, not even once a month) in which they do find out life saving techniques, most of which are just refresher techniques. Some have been known to replace the light bulbs on their trucks, but as far as true maintence on equipment, the employees do not have the kind of training required to work on a peice of $3500 equipment, or on an ambulance. Those things have to be sent out. Ambulances go to Jarnigans and the other equipment goes to whatever equipment specialist or manufacturer qualified to service the equipment. When not running calls, unless a training is scheduled, they are either eating or sleeping. But when working a 24 you sleep all you can.
