I think this needs to be heard. This person told me they had a death in the family and Smith Funeral Home had the deased and Smiths told this person that if the funeral bill was not paid in several days that they would turn it over to a collection agency. This person had to go and borrow the money.I think this sounds so gready of Smiths , like they do not have any feelings for the greaving families. I do not like to say so much negative about anyone but I think people needs to be prepared if they use Smiths Funeral Home.

Unfortunatley, this is their business. Nothing against the family or the deceased. Too many people skip out on their responsiblities. It's those people that have made it hard on the ones that do pay or the ones that honestly can't pay. Yes, this is sad, but it's life..

And? Your point is? The family employed Smith's to perform a service for them, and knew UP FRONT the cost. So typical of the welfare mentality of many in the community that they are due anything for nothing. Yes it is sad they don't have the money, but they were responsible THEMSELVES up front before they employed Smiths. Only a complete idiot would not expect Smiths to turn this over to "collections". THEY WERE ROBBED AND CHEATED BY THIS FAMILY. Regardless of the situation, the family is trying to cheat/steal from Smiths. I applaud Smiths for standing up!!!!!!

Bridges are not like that nor are the funeral homes in the surronding counties. Mayes in Morristown, I do not know but I do know that most of the funeral homes does not expect right up front their money just several days after burial and I do know that Smiths would not even let them pay monthly for this burial. Pay or collection agency. That sure does not sound like that they care for the family , just money and people are getting more aware of this and they should be. The word of GOOD funeral homes people are getting more aware of . It is bad to loose a love one , and then you find out that all Smiths care about is the money. I know for myself about Smiths how rude they can be , I have saw and watched alot in this funeral home.

Fact is, Smith's DOES NOT go to this length to collect unless someone has taken an excessive amount of time to settle their bill. Only someone of lower intelligence would think that Smiths would demand payment in full only a few days after the burial. How about you give Smiths a call and get the truth instead of listening to an idiot on Topix spread lies?

I have known quite a few people in the funeral business, and I know that funeral homes have had to begin to collect their money when and how they can.
It's sad to have families bargain for a funeral, then, after the service has been performed, they don't pay. Most funeral homes have gone to holding the bodies of the deceased until the insurance company or social security has funded the funeral. I can see why they would do this, as many families will not pay bills they owe.
All of the contacts I've had with Smith's have been very positive, but I plan to leave this world through Bridges. It's just a personal preference, and that most of my family are from Knox County.
I do hope, however, that my many friends from Grainger County will come to pay their respects to my survivors.
I hope it will be a while.

I have no idea how Smith's does their collections. However, I know that the same funeral is a lower price at Bridges and is much nicer in my opinion. My father passed away a couple of years ago. Dad was not a believe in insurance of any kind. He believed in a savings account for a rainy day. When he passed, Bridges handled his arrangements. They never asked for money upfront from the family, knowing there was no insurance, and waited patiently while his affairs were taken care of. I have had family members handled by both places and when I go Bridges will get yet another member of my family. The people there were sincerly nice and helpful in a trying time. The funeral home is beautiful inside and out. They even have meetings to help the family through the grieving process. Their service does not stop when the burial is over, they care for people and act as if its not just another pay check for them.

This was a family member who was telling about how this family was treated at Smiths and a call was placed to try to set up payments monthly and Smiths would not except monthly payments. Smiths are rude, I have had dealings with them also and my family member was already there, deceased and they were caught in a lie that was told to me and then tried to get the upper hand on me to secure their money and I told them they would have the money by the day after the burial. I have told my family I want like Bridges. They are alot cheaper and nicer and up to date funeral home and friendlier.

When you have a business, its a business. Not that feelings are dismissed when someone dies. Its sad and a hurtful thing. But still the funeral home is responsible fore the purchase of the coffin, the process of chemicals for embalming and other expenses, these things cost money and have to be paid. Just like buying groceries or gas, have you ever told a garocer or gas attendant you need to make payments on those purchases. Its sad, but in the long run anyone can purchase life insurance for reasonable amounts, even for coverage of only 10,000 would be a reasonable amount that could be paid for monthly for the same price as 3 packs of cigarettes or 2 cartons of coke. People need to look ahead and not leave a burden like this upon their families.

YOU ARE A LIAR! I challenge anyone who remotely believes this garbage to personally check the story out. You will find that the "facts" have not been presented. Smith-Reagan Funeral Home DOES NOT do business in this manner. I am not a "family" member nor an employee of this group. I took the time to ask myself. THEY DO NOT DO BUSINESS IN THIS MANNER. It's time for everyone to stand up to those people in our community who have the notion that they are due a "free ride" on everything, and are not expected to pay for anything!

LOts more people know how things go with them at Smiths , it just isn`t me. I am only one speaking up maybe more will since I did.

my wife passed away a few months ago and I went to Smiths for her services, I told them up front that we did not have life/burial insurance and they were more than willing to help me with a payment plan (i was honest up front) I told them I would have the funeral paid in full within 3 months. They assisted me with every aspect of the funeral and they knew that I would keep my word. My family and I have lived here all our life and they shook my hand and treated me and my wife with respect. Maybe, the families with the issues also have lived here long enough that they are also known personally and thru experience/word of mouth and knew they would have too lay it on the line and give a deadline for the payment in full.
They have a job to do and a business to run, therefore, they must have certain policies and they have too take each funeral service cost on 1 on 1 basis. If they buried your loved one and want their money than its your responsiblity to pay them. I am sure they gave you a deadline for payment in full. So do your part just as they have theirs.

Stop cashing those welfare checks, checks for your kids being ADHD, give back the food stamps, and get a job...pay your bills....and things like this won't happen to you. Liar, liar, liar......

I have never got a welfare check in my life and work all of the time but this must be someone involved w/ Smiths for you to get so rowled up. My kids were never on welfare either of any kind. I thank God for my health to work but I was treated myself unfair by Smiths when I had someone down there and when and if then something happens to my family or my we sure will not be at Smiths. They are A RIP OFF TO BURY SOMEONE and everyone needs to check at Bridges they are alot cheaper and they do think of the people .

I'm sure that if you take your business, and all your family to Bridges, Smith's will go out of business. How can they survive without more customers who believe they are DUE a funeral at someone else's expense. Maybe Bridges operates that way, but not Smiths. I am not an employee of Smiths, nor do I have any ownership in the company. I do know for a fact that the owners and management will go to the greatest lengths to serve their customers. Your posting of all these lies makes you liable for slander and defamation. Take care....all Smiths has to do do is get a lawyer to petition a judge to order Topix to release your IP address and you are known to them. Then YOU will be the one who is having to pay up. Maybe that will happen.

My family used Smiths in April and the thought never crossed our minds to use any other funeral home. We were treated with the best of care as was my dear brother. Never was we rushed or carelessly thought of. My family will always use them. You do have to pay for their services, but never was it held over our head or threaten. Many friends and extended family have used their services and they care enough to know your name not just mr or mrs.

The owner of Bridges had two families once. He had multiple kids with his "secretary" and even put her up in a maid serviced home while the whole time having his FIRST family never seeing him.
POS if you ask me.
Even after getting caught by his own family, he left his FIRST family and stayed with the mistress.
She is definitely "some kind of parasite"!!!!
