Communities will be very sorry if they fall for this misleading plan.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight. Because they work all over New England, county-wide dispatch centers in the South and West.

The only issue that has any bearing is that there will be no one in the entryway of these communities.

Alas, Massachusetts, and New England in general is stuck in the ways of thinking that "it has worked for us forever" so there is no other way to do it.

1) Regionalized dispatch.
2) State dispatch centers.
3) Federal dispatch centers.

If Wendys can have people in NJ take your drive up order...maybe someone from Mumbai can take your 911 call.....right!?

Its all about control...

They should also look into regional police and fire. It works well in the south and the west.

That could save communities a tird ton of money as well

It would be similar to having an atual sheriffs dept in this state

to regionalization. No to Fusion centers. No to any Federal infringement on localities to determine their own public safety procedures.

The State Police will never allow another state-wide or county-wide agency. It would take too much power away from them. Even though it works so well in other states.

like the other blogger wrote, it is a waste of $50 G's because the answer will be no. The unions will shoot this down in a heart beat. If it saves the taxpayer money then the union is against it. They are only for themselves.

Who cares if he's a drunk or not? I remember him asking why the FFD dispatch wasn't used as a central dispatch for the whole city. This is where the civilian dispatchers need to be.

If I will not see a significant savings in my existing property tax bill. I and many other prefer to keep our dedicated local Dispatchers.

"Sorry, the reason the Police or Fire did not get to your residence sooner, because the Dispatcher was not familiar with your Street Address"!

Use the money to offset existing costs at our present Dispatch Centers, that have traditionally been doing the job!

It may work as long as the state keeps out of it. All we need is a deal like regional schools, state assistance that never reaches the level promised.

Doesn't the MA State Police already have a dispatch center for E911 calls in North Brookfield, MA ?

Keep things local! Don't source out important jobs and communtications to other towns. All it means is a loss of jobs and slower response times for emergency and other vehicles. Keep our small towns small!

Civilian dispatchers? Regionalizing? There are several dispatchers in the police and fire that are injured for the long term snd cannot work on the line. At least they are still working and not sitting at home using the taxpayers money for their disability retirement. If we have civilians as dispatchers that would mean we will have to pay their salary in addition the disabled police and firefighters.

I agree with Joe. Local industry is always better/healthier/more human - whether we're talking about food supply, medical centers, or emergency response.
