But Dan Rodamaker, CEO of Gibson Electric, said his $357,800 salary is justified by the services the utility delivers and his specialized skills. Gibson serves a seven-county area of West Tennessee, where the typical household makes around $35,000 a year.

“I run a utility company. I’m not a worker at a plant,” Rodamaker said.“My services, whether they are here or somewhere else in the country, need to be evaluated based on the environment in which they are operating.”

And yet we have people in the seven county area who can not pay their bills and the board goes on a trip to the west coast with spouses for several days. What is wrong with this picture?

Rodamaker's biggest specialized skill is hoodooing a board to allow such an obscene salary. The board members are allowing themselves to be bribed into this situation by the perks they receive such as the trip mentioned.

If his salary was based on "the environment in which they are operating", his salary should top out at about $100,000 to $125,00. His salary is three(3) times what it should be. The board members know this, and they are as guilty as him. What would possess them to okay such a ridiculous amount? No doubt, he is selfish and a lot smarter than any of them. My bill is several dollars a month higher than it should be because this board is allowing Rodamaker to take advantage of me.

Yes to Obscene for speaking out!!! Look at the dinosauers on the board. The Chairman of the Board MG has a utility line running to his duck hole across several thousand feet of open land. Try getting a line run across your property.

The board and high officials take numerous trips throughout the year to high dollar resorts for "meetings" with all expenses paid for their spouses and family by our dollars!! Can anyone tell me how this is fair? Then we wonder why our utility bills are so high. Its unbeleivable, complaints need to be filed!

The information about Board of Trustees can be found at http://www.gibsonemc.com/ourBoardofTrustees.a...

That page lists the following trustees: Mack Goode is Chm. Other members are Steve Sanders, Don Leathers Keith Heglar, Rana Buchanan, Keith Forrester, Larry Hicks, Bob McCurdy, Joan Mouser, Larry Hicks and Richard Skiles.

I would like for each member to justify Rodamaker's $357,800 salary. The trustees can't be held responsible for everything that happens at Gibson Electric, but they must be held responsible for Rodamaker's salary.

“I run a utility company. I’m not a worker at a plant,” Rodamaker said.“My services, whether they are here or somewhere else in the country, need to be evaluated based on the environment in which they are operating.”
Let's see just what is Mr. Rodamaker saying?

“I run a utility company. I’m not a worker at a plant,” This means: I'm special and better than common workers such as my employees and GEMC customers, and I deserve 10 times what they make.

“My services, whether they are here or somewhere else in the country, need to be evaluated based on the environment in which they are operating.” This is double talk for: Mind your own business. You have no right to question me. I worked hard to get the Board of Trustee where I want them, and if you'll leave me alone, I'll take them to the Cayman Islands next year and I'll get $80,000 increase in salary.

Your words give you away, Mr. Rodamaker. You spend your time at PR, mostly for Dan Rodamaker. You're riding on the back of your employees. If you were as liberal with the GEMC operation as you are with your salary, nobody could pay his/her electric bill.

This is really a shame! We need to picketing, slapping it on the news and doing all we can to get him and the board tossed out!

Rodamaker said “My services, whether they are here or somewhere else in the country, need to be evaluated based on the environment in which they are operating.” ....So I suggest we let him peddle his services somewhere else, and substantially reduce the salary for this job. The managers at other utilities don't make near that amount and they provide excellent service. He needs a salary more in line with local conditions and not based on what a TVA director makes.

The Board of Trustees allowed this to happen. Rodamaker's predecessor make a small fraction of the present salary, and I'm willing to bet Rodamaker was hired at a fraction of $358,000. Each year the raises must have been enormous, and I suspect the raises coincided with the wining and dining of the Board. He has used the Board and duped every Gibson Electric member. ALL the trustees and Rodamaker have lost sight of their mission to serve the customers, and this is a betrayal of the public trust.

Have any of you gone to the annual meetings to discuss this? That is the correct place to air your concerns.

Tell us why this is the best place. How would you get on the agenda? When would followup discussions occur? Next year? Who conducts the meeting? If Mr. Rodamaker is in charge, or whoever is in charge, how could anyone be assured of a fair hearing?

I think I have a better idea. Contacting your elected trustee is a great place to start: http://www.gibsonemc.com/ourBoardofTrustees.a... The trustees are responsible for this salary and benefit package.

Well, it seems you would get more information at the annual meeting then here on a bulletin board that is probably not monitored be GEMC. If you really want justification on any expense, the annual meeting is just one place to start.

Nope, not Dan nor do I have any affiliation with GEMC. Just saying there are probably better ways to air your grievances.

Good luck and please report back on what you find out.

Well all I can say is people we need to make a stand against these people doing this type of stuff cause we are paying for it with these high bills and yes your right people are struggling to pay there bills due to so high why these people are out on vacations and all this enjoying life look like I will be making a few calls to have Gibson county electric checked out to be sure it's being run right and why our bills are going up but other electric company's are going down or cheaper I feel they charge you what they want to.if we all go solar and run these idiots out of office or let them go broke then see who is vacationing then.

If it's true that Gibson Electric ran several thousand feet of utility line to a duck blind, I wonder who approved it? Is this just the tip of the iceberg?

Rodamaker's $358,00 salary package, which is 10 times more than the total income of the average household in the area, is morally wrong; but it may not be illegal. I think it's morally wrong for Gibson Electric customers to pay for the Board "business" trips for a dozen families, but it may not prove to be illegal. However, running several thousand feet of a utility line to a duck blind is another matter to investigate.

I think Topix and the Annual Meeting are good places to complain and air concerns, and the discussion should not be limited to the salary package. Another approach is to request a formal investigation of all questionable expenditures and activities.
