My daughter auditioned in NJ yesterday...unfortunately she was not chosen to continue. That is not what I am bitter about, however. We went to the auditons expecting a certain amount of fanfair - afterall, it is a television show and that is to be expected. She never expected to win American Idol but she fully anticipated to get through to see Randy, Paula and Simon in Novermber. She is a beautiful and etremely talented and decorated singer - as were a good number of people who were not even put through to the second round. What bothers me is that singer after singer was sent home - people who COULD SING were refused an audition while some who were "entertaining" were given the opportunity to audition further!! My daughter was told that she had an "amazing voice but was not what they were looking for right now" that would be fine except that I truly wish that someone could explain how you could be told that you're great but to go home without even a shot while they advanced a girl who was actually laughed at when she auditioned, someone who proposed, someone who decided to take off their shirt and run around, someone who dressed like a complete fool and carried around a puppet (one of whom never even sang mind you)....There was a beautiful girl there whom had the most beautiful voice - very unique - could rival Whitney Houston yet, she too was sent home without advancing to the second round after they were able to sing for 30 seconds. I realize that personality is involved but if the people given the chance to actually try are soley for the sake of entertainment value and people that will be voted off as opposed to some of the people there that were really good then call it a tv show and not a singing competition. Maybe it would be more beneficial, at least to those who are not looking for their 2 seconds of fame but to find a way to open some doors to create opportunities to further their talents, to have one day of registration to limit the number of registrants and to have Randy, Paula and Simon see all who are registered and then put those you are putting through for entertainment purposes through for the shows entertainment value... For all those who made it to the second round who CAN sing - Congratulations!!!! It was a long, grueling process.....Hope you succeeed!!

by the way....there were a group of 20-25 "specially selected" auditioners that "received letters from the producers" and were brought up to be the first to audition - most of whom received tickets to advance in the auditions. It is nothing like they portray on tv. You wait on line for hrs then you have to sit in the stadium for hrs to go down to the flr where there are 13 tables 1 judge at each - you go down in groups of 4 and have 20-30secs to audition. There are 3 rounds of this with the shows producers before you get to audition for Simon, Randy and Paula. Everything takes hard work and perserverance - To all those who we were able hear sing and sang beautifully but were turned away - your time will come - don't give up! To all those who made it through Congrats and Good Luck.

disheartened: the thing you need to understand about idol is that number one it is all political!!! number two do you see how many people turn out at the auditions?? do you think that they are going to put through all great singers? number three it's still reality tv and they get high ratings when they put on funny acts...and most importantly number four - the girl with the puppet if you're referring to the kangaroo puppet with a yellow dress and boa that was me...I'm not sure if it was me though because you stated the person holding the puppet was dressed like a fool (i was wearing a pretty faded pink dress) and didn't sing (of course i sang!!!)I have auditioned for idol 8 times now. After not getting through with the true talent I know that I have I decided to come up with a gimmick to get me through to the big judges, just like scooter girl did about 4 seasons ago. I am a true performer...I'm a working actress/singer. If your daughter is destined to make it she can make it without idol. They change what they look for every year!!

sorry disheartened but sogonnabefamous is correct - im her best friend and i tried out for four seasons - its not what you think - what they show on tv is all edited and false! it is extremely competitive and at the end of the days its more like a casting than and audition - difference being a casting is to fill a certain criteria an audition is to scout talent - they seemed to stop doing that - they focus more on ratings and comedy until it comes time for the voting that is when the competition truly begins - sogonnabefamous aka "puppetgirl" is extremely talented!

You are not the girl that I was referring to (the girl that I was referring to was dressed insanely and her puppet was not a jangaroo it was a boy)- I apologize if you believed that it was...I did say that I realized that it was reality tv??? I also stated that I did realize that there were people put through who could sing and to those I wished luck?? I also commented that those who were able to get through went through a grueling process to get there?? I meant no disrepect to anyone - you may need to read my original post again...I dont care that my daughter didn't make it because she will with or without Idol - I was commenting that the show and the process of the show is NOT hat is portrayed on tv and that in many ways it is unfair to some bcse of the need for the entertainment value. Like I said before it is simply a shame that those that can sing aren't passed through to get a fair shot at the judges when some that sang so poorly that it would make the first few episodes amusing got the chance to go into Simon, Paul and Randy - as you said you have auditioned so many times...I am sure that you would enjoy that opportunity as well. Obviously, they can't put everyone through to them - I wasn't stating that they should! My daughter has stated the same as you that she must go in with a gimmick to get them to listen....THERE IS NO DOUBT IN MY MIND THAT MY DAUGHTER WILL BE FAMOUS - and I hope that your dreams are fulfulled as well...
