I bet JK Rowling was being denied the "good" party scene in the UK. So make Dumbledore "gay" and now all sorts of doors to parties open up to her. She is now Political Correct.

Of course, not to bright given the history of homo's working in boarding schools. But then again, the story is set in England, and Brits & buggering go together like fish & chips.

Rowling just lost about 50% of her following with this idiotic move. Does the 'Gay Persona' have to permeate all of art? Why does this have any relevance? Perhaps Rowling wishes to end the series by torpedoing it's popularity. Enough with the homosexual agenda - this is NOT important and has no place in middle school literature.

I have no problem with gay people, but they can change if they want to. There are ministers that can help them - the author should have the character get the proper religous training that we as good Americans offer to make the gays straight. If the books mentioned Dumbledore's sexual preference, you might have a valid point. But they didn't mention it.

Also, I seriously doubt she's lost 50% of her following. The majority of people open minded enough to read and enjoy her books about tolerance and acceptance aren't going to be fazed by this announcement. It goes against everything she espouses her the books.

I'd missed Lindsey's post about JK Rowling wanting to be in the limelight since her books are are all written.

#1, To even mention JK Rowling and Britney Spears in the same sentence is blasphemy!!!

#2, JK Rowling is notoriously publicity shy. This is a well documented fact.

A child's mind is like an empty vessel. What they see, read and are told at a young age will shape their personalities and adult life. With all the exposure to sex, bad language in music lyrics, fashion and our present culture, we can only hope for the best. I could care less about Harry Potter books and movies. We still live in a free country and choice is still an option for the parent to decide what their kids are exposed to. Where many parents fall short is that they don't give thier children the basic knowledge and values to see & know the difference between normal and aberrant behavior. The worst thing that happens is when a child accepts abnormal as normal. They get allot of bad information on the streets, TV and internet. Then they're finished off in school, where teachers aren't allowed to teach values. Think I'm kidding? Just try talking to kids today and see their views of the world. You might be unpleasantly surprised.

I'm an adult, well at least old enough to pretend. I enjoyed all of the books, but until the revelation that Dumbledore was gay, I never really understood why he didn't explain more to Harry. The problem with a closet is that more than just a person's orientation gets locked away.

This is nothing but a stunt to generate more fans and more money. The gig is up, the series is over. She ended it herself, so why continue to use a sexual ploy to keep bilking the masses?

Yes, because being richer than Queen Elizabeth II and notoriously publicity shy, JK Rowling NEEDS more money and more fans. Yep, that makes sense!

Actually, I think it does make sense. The last book has already come out. It will be a long time before the next movie comes out. You need publicity to keep the brand on the public's mind. Reminders. And I wouldn't focus solely on her wealth. Thousands in the film production crews, publishing companies, Amazon, etc. are impacted by the sales of the books/movies.

She has more money than the Queen of England, and she's married to a doctor. Somehow, I Doubt she's motivated by money.

Half Blood Prince is out next November.

I'm sorry, I just don't see how your theory holds water.

I've read all the books many many times. There was no mention of Dumbledore's private life at all. I had no inkling that he was gay. I think it was just something she used to help define his character. Just as she didn't mention in the books that Crookshanks was half Kneazle, Dean Thomas had a Muggle mother and that Molly Weasley's maiden name was Prewitt.

If you go to her website, she tells you some of these things that don't make it into the book, yet they were thinks that helped her shape and mold the character.

She's baffled by all the uproar over this.

Oh, I'm not saying she has necessarily BAD motives and I'm sure she isn't looking for money for herself, but for all the other people involved in the Potter brand....it doesn't hurt to keep people talking about the product.
