Is anyone else experiencing problems with Aqua Virginia in regards to water usage? I have lived here in Lake Land'or for 7 years now and have had several problems with Aqua Virginia including excessive amounts of water usage, poor customer service, and frequent rate hikes.I recently (September 15th) urged my 84 year old Grandfather to move into a rental house located across the street from me. He suffered wounds to his knees during World War II, during the battle for Iwo Jima, and unfortunately those wounds have caught up with him in his older years and have rendered him 90% immobile. He is unable to care for himself in many ways which is why I urged him to move here so I and my Wife could look after him. We do all his laundry at our home and the home he rents has no washer and dryer. He is unable to use the bathtub and requires a sponge bath. He does not use the dishwasher at all as all his utensils are disposable ie. Spoons, forks, paper cups and plates. His first water bill from Aqua Virginia was $267.01 for around 11,200 gallons of water usage. WOW , we called the Landlord and he immediately sent out a plumber to check for leaks. NOTHING. We started to check the water meter ourselves and his average usage per day was between 40 and 60 gallons a day. Next bill $243.92 for 9,000 gallons of water usage. We obviously called them and they had no excuse but said they would come and check the meter for accuracy.(by, GET THIS Running 1 gallon of water through the meter). Of course the said it was accurate. 1 week later the meter disappeared to be checked by their lab. New meter same problem, this months bill was for $250.00. Our readings show a 9,200 gallon difference with their readings. By the way, coincidently my meter was also swapped out on the same day and my next bill was suprisingly $267.01 for 11,000 gallons. I know the course I will take to resolve this problem (legal action) I am just curious to see if anyone on here has had similar problems in Lake Land'or recently. Thank you all for listening.

That company is a joke, I've tried to resolve a billing issue with them for over a year. Each time I speak to someone they say they will correct it, but they never actually do. Luckily for me there is no water actually drawn to my property yet and their threats of turning off the water are meaningless. As for Lake Landor, they were no help at all and actually were the cause of the issue in the fist place. I can't tell you how happy I am I never built on the land. Too bad I can't find some one to take it off my hands, I've pretty much abandoned it as I'm completely fed up with the llpoa and aqua.

I'm in a neighborhood of 48 homes with water provided by Aqua VA. In September we had a water bill of 712.77 our previous bill was 76.90 and our last bill was 51.23. In Sept, 9 homes in our neighborhood were billed 6.584.89 with an average daily usage of 16000 gallon per day. The SCC does not regulate this utility. They suggest filing a complaint with the Attorney Generals office, VA Dept of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Office of Consumer Affairs 800-552-9963, www.vdacs.virginia.gov

I have many problems with that company. My water bill went from $77 to $139. I had a plumber check for leaks-nothing found. They switched out my meter and the bill was $99, however the new meter shows 171 gal per day, the old meter was 137 gal. per day. Customer service is a joke with this company and we have no alternative for water service. I will be contacting the attorney generals office

I live in the Lake Monticello developement in Palmyra. My Bills went from 72.00 to 115.00 in one month. My son has moved out since Nov. and I am not watering plants and have less water usage than August although the meter is saying it has doubled. I am wondering how to approach this problem. I see now that my neighbors are colplaining about similar hikes in thier bills.

In today's US time, People in general are having such a hard time making ends meet. How dare the water company take advantage of folks by not doing their job properly. There is no way in hell that water bills are going to go from double digits one month to triple digits the next month. Something is very wrong when water usage is the same from month to month. Either meters are not working properly or water is being stolen by construction companies, etc. For all the people affected by this outrage of circumstance, flood the Attorney General's office, with protesting letters and also all of your elected officials to put a stop to this. I personally would also write to the Governor and all local officials. Nothing is going to be accomplished or corrected if the powers that be don't know what's going on. All of you can make a difference and put a stop to these insane water bills.

Have you had any success with this company and your high water bills? The Ohio Public Service Commission just fined them over $100,000.00 for inaccurate water bills as this issues has been going on for several months.
They changed billing systems and did not scrub the data and also have estimated bills for several months in a row. Would appreciate hearing how they solved your high bills.

I too live in Lake Land Or and have for about five and a half years. I have seen my water bills go from $39/month to $77/month during this period.

I live alone and work during the day. Aqua Virginia says I use 60 gallons of water/day. I find that very hard to believe.

But what are you going to do? They are the only water supplier for Lake Land Or. They have a monopoly so they can charge whatever they want.

I would like to get some email addresses for any of you in this area, I'm working with Food and Water Watch from Washington D.C. I have also spoke with Aqua customers from Texas and many people here in Florida. We are forming a group to influence the elected officals to make the regulation of water compaines more fair and balanced. The state of Ohio has much better laws in place than do Florida, Texas, Missouri, and Virginia. This company will continue to raise rates at will without regard to customer service. In Florida with 18000 water customers The Aqua call center in North Carolina (main one) this center averages 4,500 calls a month just from the Florida customers. This is an unbelievable number of calls for a water company if it were a telepone company where lines and go down house wiring go bad ect it might make a little more sense. I can send you a lot of information if you reply to my email freams@tamapbay.rr.com

My water usage last month was 55 gallons/day but my bill went to $97!!!

Stonewallpark,
When my family moved into land'or, our water bill was $48.00 per month. The normal water/sewer bill for a family of 3 in neighboring counties. The State corporation commission has allowed Aqua VA to raise the rates at will and now our water bill is roughly $175.00 per month. This has happened over a 5 year period.
Nobody in caroline has stood by us except Wayne Acors. He is the only person who has talked to us on a regular basis on how we need to send complaints to the state corp. commision.
Finally, we have more supervisors involved. Why didn't they get invovled before now?
You don't know what you're talking about.
We couldn't sell our house if we wanted to. And now, the Board of directors is deciding whether to give up the private security that we hire. It they do that, what's the point of living in a gated neighborhood?

Stonewall,
We moved into Land'or seven years ago. At that time, the water bills were approximately $39 a month. Over the last four to five years it has gone from $39 to $150 a month. Until you have walked in mine and my neighbors shoes deciding whether to pay the water bill or buy food and medications, showering less and collecting the water to flush the toilet, avoiding washing our vehicles and watering our lawns and plants, you have absolutely no right to call us the crybabies of Caroline. Furthermore, my husband and I have discussed moving out of this area primarily due to the water bill, but who in their right mind would want to buy a house whose water bill is higher than the electric bill. If I knew seven years ago that it would be this way now, there would have been no way in hell we would have settled here. Aqua Virginia is ruthless and has unscrupulous business practices. Perhaps one day you will have them as your water provider and you can enjoy the poor customer service, exorbitant bills and the sub par water conditions as we do here in Land'or.
Regards,
Erin S.

A well isn't always the best choice. There could be contamination of groundwater which could cause whole new problems, not to mention the huge cost of digging your own well. This could be their only option, but it is also THEIR homes. They want their rates to be fair and correct is all.

I don't pay bills yet, but this looks like a another big business tragedy. Why do they think they can get away with it? They usually do. If people paid more attention to their bills, rather than just paying and saying 'that's how it is', you should look for discrepancies now more than ever! Because when theres an economic fallout, guess who'll dodge the blast? Not the consumer, that's for sure!

Raise hell with Aqua. No way we should be taking this crap. They are managerially very inept and customer service is a joke. I can't count how many times I've been promised a return call and never got one.

They need to be sued.
