Does anyone know the process or chemicals walmart uses to keep meats looking fresh. I know they dont cut meats in the stores, and of course they have to ship it in from else where. How do they keep it fresh looking? Is it safe? Most untreated meats would go bad long before walmarts does. Is it safe after the expiration date, because it still looks fresh?

I know my dad has to throw out any meat that is past its sell by date, can't mark it down or anything... It would still be safe if you froze it when you bought it and then it went past the sell by and you cooked. Just don't keep stuff in your freezer like that over 6 months, 3 months to be even more safe.

Yea I hate it. But they aren't calling it Prime. They are calling it "premium beef, USDA Choice". And the commercials are calling it USDA Choice Premium?

Do not be fooled. USDA doesn't have "Choice premium" or "premium choice". It is USDA CHOICE and that is it! But that is the same that other grocery stores have as well. USDA PRIME and USDA SELECT is saved for restaurant and resort quality locations. USDA CHOICE is for grocery and everything after USDA CHOICE is used in canned and frozen meals. I am thinking about contacting the head of that marketing division.
