I have a "secretary" - number 51 - made by the Sheets MFG. Co. of Wapakoneta, OH. Does anyone know the history of this company and about when this desk was manufactured?

Sheets Mfg was started in 1903 by H.E. Sheets.
The first Sheets factory was actually in Botkins(about 5-6 miles south of Wapakoneta) They bent rims/wheels for wagon wheels and agriculture purpose vechicles. They were the largest lumber builders in our area. They had approx(at the time 100 men working for them) With one of them being my grandfather.further more Sheets Mfg was one of the pioneers of exporting finished product. Back in the early 1900's pretty much in America what you built in America was sold in America. Mr. H.E. Sheets believed there was a "wider" market outside of America. He was one of the first to export American made wood products.
If I had to guess the age of your desk I would say somewhere between 1903- 1920. Approx. WW1 era.
hope this helps

I have been trying to get a little more informaiton on your Grandfathers Comapny. I have a small 8 leg drop leave table with one drawer I purchased at an auction. The the bottom of the drawer is very difficult to read but we were able to make out the Sheets Manufactoring Co., Wapakneta, Oh - can you tell me the approximate date this piece would have been manufacture? What year did the company cease its furniture manufactoring business? Home email: [email protected]

Thank You

I have a gate-leg table with 2 drawers that was also made by Sheets Mfg. It was given to us in 1970 by our landlady. Any idea how much it might be worth, or how do I find out?
Thanks, Carolyn

I acquired an oval gate leg drop-leaf table from my great aunt. My husband wants to throw it out because he says it must be from the seventies, no earlier. I am trying to find some info on Sheets Mfg Wapakoneta, to get some idea when it could have been made. But can't find anything on the Internet other than these posts. Anybody know where to find any info..
Thanks,

I have a Sheets desk also,#446, and I love it. Isn't it wonderful that we can share the history of this company. If you can give me any history on this desk by the number, I would dearly love to hear from you. 2144 Poplar Blvd., Frankfort, IN 46041

I want to thank you for taking the time to let us know the history of our sheets MAG products. I think mine was closer to 20s or maybe later it's an actagon shaped drop leaf. They got creative lol

I have probably the same item - a ladies writing desk #441. I read somewhere way back when (probably Wikapedia) that the co. closed around 1921 & that they were well known for ladies desks. I'm trying to ascertain a value also.

We just purchased an oval drop leaf table at the Dayton Garage Sale and would like some information about the piece. It has small drawers opening to either side and the sticker on the bottom of one of those says that it was made by Sheets Manufacturing Company and is "No. 81." We aren't worried about a valuation, but would like to at least know the approximate year of manufacture. Thanks from [email protected]!
