A Rockcastle County family is attempting to become the first to ride a 5 person tandem bike on a 7,000 mile journey across America.

The Harrisons, Bill, his wife Amarins, and their three adorable little girls between the ages of 6 and not quite 3, have Alaska as their final destination, and yet today they were heading south.

They say they plan to hit the Southern states during the winter or fall on their journey.

The family says they live by the generosity of the people as we go along.

They have about $1,000 dollars to their name, and they're just going to see what happens.

Bill says he's always wanted to take a bicycle trip, and he's been to Alaska and says it's beautiful.

The family hopes to travel as many as 50 miles a day.

The Harrison family hopes to arrive in Alaska by next July or August depending on what adventures they encounter between here and there.

I was driving north and unexpectedly saw them riding south on US 127 near Wartburg Tennessee the other day riding that long bike pulling a trailer . I thought it was crazy with no following vehicle alerting drivers of their presence ahead on such a narrow road with no shoulders. I wondered how anyone could subject innocent little children to such incredible ,senseless dangers just so they could show out to prove some kind of point. They will be very lucky to make it to Alaska alive riding like that without some type of warning vehicle behind them.
Agree they should have their kids taken away from them just for being freaking idiots then they can take their little stupid bike ride. I am sure much of what they do is public funded.

I actually think that's cool. It will be a good learning experience for the kids. It's an adventure. How many kids actually say they get to go on an adventure at six or three? It's a wonderful thing in my opinion.

That man probably got laid off from his job, they lost their house, so they have no other choice but to pack up whats left and start biking. It's horrible that they are relying on other people to feed their children.

I would like to do this, but find a couple other people willing to try it.

So, these people are vagrant beggars!! And they think it's neat to get kids from nearly 3 yrs old to 6 involved in learning how to beg?' Great way to teach your kids not to be responsible for themselves and non self-supporting. They're learning young to expect "something" for "nothing".
And for the nut who said it's a good "learning experience and an adventure" for the kids, it's clear you did not really think of the reality of this nonsense. Is there adventure in a kid not knowing IF she will get to eat today or not? Or an enjoyable experience in getting hurt, cut, or injured and having no money to seek medical care?Which do you think is worse....A boogie-man who does not exist... Or the very real constant fearful threat of being run over or hit by a car, truck, semi, or someone towing a camper who cannot possibly see these nuts until they're on top of them?
And fun? Whether or not the small child is peddling ..... The child is still strapped in or made to stay ON that stupid bike for excessive hours a day whether she feels like it or not. I'm fairly certain that could not possibly be fun,or exciting and definitely not healthy for children aged almost 3 to 6 years old. That would be very equivalent to a farmer standing his 3 to 6 yr olds behind a mule as it plows the field all day long.
Call it what it is; ABUSE and NEGLIGENCE of small children to fulfill an idiotic idea of an obviously unbalanced parent who puts their own wants above the needs, safety and security of their children!!!
I pray social services has stepped in taken these exploited children away from these undeserving parents.
