Raise

Russell Springs, KY

#1 Feb 9, 2013
It is time for a raise. When will the people in america be ready to stand up and ask for a raise. Before we get anything we have to ask for it.
Just about every year social security checks increase.
This is evidence that some people are getting a raise while others are working for minimum wage and are not acknowledged .
I am not saying that people who draw checks shouldn't get a raise.
We should take our time to make sure that our elderly , disabled and poor people get an increase when our economy increased the cost of living.
That's is being done.....ONLY because those peoples who are entitled to draw checks stood up for what they were entitled. Some have to hire Lawyers to get what they deserve even when there already entitled to draw a check. But they stood up. They hired somebody else to speak for them and prove their needs.
What is it that a poor person can do?
What can people do to make minimum wages go up?

You can start by getting a post secondary education to learn a valuable skill. The more skills you have the better your wages and you won't be a bottom feeding welfare case.

If you can't pay your employees a living wage then you shouldn't be in business. Everyone cannot go to college but if you work at a job 40 hours a week and are a good employee, you should get paid at least $9 per hour. Most employers just don't want to pay that because they want more money for themselves. That's why they don't offer benefits to their employees either. Some of the small business owners should just get a job and quit trying to operate when they don't have the money or the business. Look at the small businesses that closed in the last couple of years around here and filed bankruptcy. The problem is that they spent the money on stuff to make themselves look good instead of paying their bills and taking care of their employees.

all raising minimum wage does is make the poor people think someone is trying to help them and help a politician get some votes. In reality it just drives up the cost of living.

How can you live on $9.00/hr???
We should pay everyone at lest $23.50 per hour. That is the only way anyone can make it.

Any business that can't pay that should just close. They don't deserve to even try to make a living.

Only big business should be allowed. Because once we get all these pesky small businesses out of the way - then we can charge ANYTHING WE WANT!

I agree w/ true - he has obviously had decades of experience running businesses. He knows exactly what it takes to be successful! He certainly has taken the risks of ownership. I can tell he has put all his personal finances at risk, trying to provide a service to this community.
You know he has given several people jobs and made sure that the ones that came ASKING for those JOBS at he WAGE HE OFFERED were paid each week.

I know - Lets make minimum $37/hr. Because, we know that these evil retailers are going to try to make up for the costs by raising their prices and we won't be able to buy much at only $23.50.

Now we need to plan ahead - we can make it $48 in 2 years because those evil folks will just keep raising their prices just so they can stay in business.

YEA, that's what we should do!!!

This is one of the most uniformed comments I have ever heard!
You have a right to be in business. You have a right to pay them anything thing that is legal.

You have a right NOT to take ANY job at ANY place that you don't want to work.

When someone says - Here is a job, it pays $7.50/hr.
You say, I will take it. Guess what - you agreed upon that.
When you find a better one - move on.

Sounds like you would rather there was less business meaning LESS JOBS. That way you can sponge off the Government. Dirty little secret -- Less jobs, less business = LESS TAX money = Less Handout money eventually.

and now you see the true conservative mentality. as long as they can get you minimum wage workers to hate the check drawers, they're so on your side. understand that each successive economic recovery means more for the wealthy while middle class jobs get decimated with poorer and poorer pay and demand that not all the wealth be concentrated at the top? well then you've suddenly become one of those bottom dwelling parasites you were just bashing alongside those that would keep you in your place.

i'll tell you what, it's time we REALLY woke up. this past "recovery" ends up with all gains (and there have been pretty nice gains after the 2008 drop in gdp) going to the top. how much? the top 1% saw an increase of 11% in their wealth... the other 99%? they saw a drop of .4%.

it's time to stop snapping at those who are basically in the same economic strata and demand that the wealth be shared more equitably with those who TRULY create it, LABOR.

We should first try to understand the basics of economics.

You say, "We should pay everyone at lest $23.50 per hour. That is the only way anyone can make it'.

If we raise wages and there is no corresponding increase in productivity -- we accomplish nothing. We simply have more competition for the same amount of goods.

We can't eat food that isn't produced, no matter how much money we have.

We can't wear clothes that aren't made, no matter how much money we have.

We can drive cars that aren't built regardless of the money we are paid.

More dollars chasing the same amount of goods just creates inflation and devalues our dollars.

High productivity is the key to a high standard of living -- not high wages.

Most folks want to just sit on their hiney and enjoy an ever higher living standard. It don't work that way. If you want to live better you must produce more.

It's as simple as that.
