Russell county residents who have Air Evac helicopter air ambulance coverage are in a quandary over the county EMS and dispatch service in time of while county calling a competing Somerset air ambulance helicopter service and Air Evac members being charged thousands of dollars for service not covered. The answer to this problem is very simple and the laws are on the books to allow for the fiscal curt to have a county air ambulance FRANCHISE AGREEMENT to allow any air ambulance service a county franchise agreement according to county franchise terms to operate within Russell county much like cable TV, phone company, utility companies. If any helicopter ambulance company dispatched by EMS and hospital from Russell county operates within Russell county they must offer reasonable memberships to residents of Russell county using that company.

When your life is on the line and a flight to UK or Vanderbilt is critical, you won't give a damn which helicopter service transports you. We have far more important problems plaguing this county.

With the way those idiots Holt and Johnson were speaking at the court meeting, you'd think people were being flown out for sprained toes and nose bleeds!

If I had a choice between a 10-30k dollar hospital bill or a body bag, I'm choosing whichever helicopter can get to me the quickest regardless of my membership.

All the fiscal court magistrates have to do to stop this unequal helicopter service nonsense once and for all is to pass an air ambulance franchise agreement for any air ambulances operating in Russell county offer citizens reasonable service memberships. A franchise agreement just like the current electric service provider franchise renewal agreement City of Russell Springs is currently renewing.

I understand what you are saying Air Evac has membership, whereas Air Methods doesn't. But suppose the following scenerio occurs: Bad car wreck where more than one helicopter is needed and Air Evac only has one helicopter they can send and you know that at least 2 of these patients requires a helicopter immediately or they may die, What do you do? Call Air Evac for one patient and potentially let the second patient die as the EMS are not allowed to call Air Methods because it would be too expensive?

Another scenerio: Helicopter is needed Air Evac is unable to fly due to being out on other calls, being down for maintenance, or flight time from another base is too long. Knowing that a persons life is on the line, do you not call Air Methods beause they don't have a membership?

If someone needs a helicopter and Air Evac isn't available, but Air Methods is and they aren't called because of magistrates(that have no medical knowledge whatsoever) making a medical decision and something happens, I do believe that there will be lawsuits against these magistrates and the county.

Air Evac has a helicopter based in Campbellsville as well as Albany that can be dispatched to Russell county. Air Methods only HAS ONE based in Somerset. Air Evac has over 4000 paying memberships in Russell county and Air Methods has NOT ONE membership with $30,000 flight charges. From January 1 2012 to December 16 2012 there were a total of 69 helicopter flights dispatched from Russell county with Air Methods GETTIGN THE MAJORITY of flights with 38 compared to Air Evacs 31. A member of Russell county EMS moonlights on the side working for Air Methods in Somerset when he is not working for Russell county EMS. ISN'T IT A STRANGE COINCIDENCE THAT AIR METHODS IS GETTING MORE HELICOPTER FLIGHTS IN RUSSELL COUNTY? It doesn't take a genius to figure out what has been going on here for too long.

First of all you need to get your facts straight before you post. Air Methods DOES have a membership and also has a base in Glasgow. Secondly if you have car insurance/ health insurance they will pay for almost all of it. Everyone in this county has nothing else better to do but bitch about the people who is trying to save lives. I believe our county attorney also advised them to be careful making a policy allowing one flight service since they are not medical professionals and could be a huge lawsuit. Example. If Air Methods could be here in 12min and Air Evac out had to come out of Campbellsville with a 20min flight and that patient dies due to delayed transport time. If that happened to your family I bet you would be outraged knowing it could have been prevented.

Health care costs are high enough without the added cost of an emergency air service bill with no membership. My insurance wont pay. I need a reasonable membership plan to cover high cost of emergency medical transport like Air Evacs $35/couple RECC plan.

Who cares if they work for Air Methods and Russell Co. They also have a Paramedic who works for Air Evac. If you have a problem with the ambulance service stop bitching about it on topix and go to the monthly ambulance board meeting. Second Tuesday each month at 5:30pm

According to Air Methods Omnicare membership website in addition to the $49 Air Methods membership you must also have health insurance that covers air transport. My Anthem health care plan does not cover air ambulance service. Air Evac memberships do not restrict their memberships if members don't have air ambulance coverage on their health insurance Air Evac can collect off of.

My suggestion would be to specify that you want Air Evac if you ever need a chopper but Im sure if you ever do you wont care who comes to get you. Air Evac also cannot transport a patient much over 200lbs depending on fuel and crew weight that day so I hope you meet that criteria.

Once again if you have an issue with personnel take it up at the monthly board meeting. Your accomplishing nothing on here by bashing others

Are you saying those morbidly obese county EMS employees weighing over 200lbs are out of luck if they need air transport themselves?

I did some looking in to it last year Air evac was trying to sell my mother who is 70 and several of her friends at the health fair. All of her friends draw there SSI and are on fixed incomes. Come to find out one of the largest client base that Air Evac has is elderly people. So I did some calling around and you can to if they are flew out and they have Medicaid and Medicare they will not have a bill from they have to take what the insurance pays. So if any of the people out there know someone that is elderly and they are paying for a membership tell them to do some looking in to this
