LETTER: Crack Cocaine is ruining lives in Adair, shares this contributor
"If you call the drug tipline it's like your call is ignored"
----------
This writer says she knows a lot of people who are on crack cocaine and knows one of the dealers. She questions why our officials can't stop the sale of illegal substances in Adair County when the dealers are known by so many? She shares her personal experience with drugs in this letter.
I don't believe in drugs at all, I have nieces and nephews that have to grow up in this county as well as other loved ones who have to grow up here.
I had a boyfriend and we stayed together for 1 year, 2 months, and 24 days, but it ended when in the last month of our relationship he got hooked on crack. I tried to help him, but it was no good.
I watched him go from an upstanding person to a begger in no time at all. He had a good paying job, but now he's not even making minimum wage at his new job.
I loved him very much and was even thinking about marrying him and a part of me will always love him no matter what, but to be in that relationship was harmful to my health because of his addiction.
He told me that the first hit you take of crack is the one that gets you hooked and that you just keep wanting more and more, you smoke a little at first then each puff you take you have to have a larger amount each time.
He said that trying to get off crack was like rollerskating up a big, steep hill and that usually you'll always fall back down to the bottom. He fell to the very bottom and has never got back up again. Why he even took the first hit, I'll never know.
I also have a brother-in-law who is separated from my sister, he's a crack user. He has a girlfriend who is living with him that does crack. He use to come get his kids every weekend and now he don't come at all.
The kids don't know what to think about their daddy not coming to see them. When I look in their eyes, I just want to cry because I can see the hurt in their eyes when he passes by and he doesn't even look at them.
I try to tell them that it's not their fault but the little girl thinks it's her fault and the little boy tries not to let any feelings he has show thru. Anymore it seems that if it isn't something to do with crack cocaine then he wants nothing to do with it.
I tell these kids that their daddy loves them, but I'm not so sure myself anymore, but I won't tell them that.
In both cases, crack cocaine is stronger than love ever could be.
I appreciate you running the article, it's very sad that some people in this county won't open their eyes to what is really going on.
Thank you so much,
Regina

I was traveling through Columbia from Greensburg . I went across Tutt St. to get to the parkway. I was stopped by the city police and harrassed for 15 minutes or longer. They wanted to search my car and purse. They said I had just came from the high drug traffic area. I told the officer that he was definetly at the wrong location he should be at that location instead of detaining me. He was asking me if I had stoed at different house, he apparently knew which house the dealers were at but he chose to harrass me and my grandchildren.
sorry

I'm sorry you have had to go through this. it's in every family now (at least one) and I am not sure of the answer. If you can tell your children anything .. it is to NEVER take the FIRST drug. I also have heard that you cna never stop after the FIRST high.

AND THAT U CANT STOP AFTER THE FIRST TIME IS SIMPLY NOT TRUE.ALL THAT IS IS AN EXCUSE!I KNOW TOO MANY POEPLE THAT HAVE BEEN ADDICTED SO BAD, WORSE THAN ANYONE DPWN HERE CAN EVEN CONCEIVE,AND THEY KICKED THE DRUG!ITS ABOUT TRULEY WANTING TO BE OFF THE SHIT.SURE THERE IS RELAPSE, THAT IS PART OF RECOVERY,BUT IT ALL COMES DOWN TO A COMPLETE CHANGE OF LIFESTYLE. U CANNOT STOP USING CRACK AND STILL ASSOCIATE URSELF WITH PEOPLE THAT DO THE DRUG AND U HAVE TO STAY DETERMINED. IF PEOPLE DO THOSE THINGS AND REALLY WANT TO STOP USING THEY CAN .U DONT PHYSICALLY DETOX OFF COCAIN LIKE U DO OPIATES, ITS ALL IN IF U WANT IT BAD ENOUGH!!!!!!!

they know, they see, they dont act. they have other reasons. for everyone that is busted another takes his place. if you want to win the war you have to know that you are a part of this. all of them must take a stand. they want your money and in the mean time they destroy families and lives. what the fuck. who cares, they know the names and the homes but they dont act. they just sit around on their fucking asses and eat donuts. fucking a,do something. you know, dont wait. even the small guys are guilty of the greatest of sins, murder in more degrees than they can ever understand. punishable only by forcing them to become crack heads and eventually them watching their children grow up while all they care about is crack and then the ex heads getting to beat them to death and laughing as they die.

As long as you got the money you can buy any amount of crack, pills, pot, or anything else for that matter. The amount of drugs in Russell and Adair counties would scare most of the people to death if they knew how bad it really is.
