Every year out of state boaters who keep their boats in Russell county year round in boat storage sheds laugh at local Ky boaters who have to pay huge Ky property taxes on their boats used in Ky.For example Ohio boaters who don't have to pay ad valorem property taxes on boats registered in Ohio keeping their boats in Ky year round pay Ohio boat registration fees only every 3 years based on overall boat length scale with the maximum length 3 year registration fee charged for boats over 65 feet long only $83 TOTAL FOR 3 YEARS ! Some of these Ohio registered boats kept in Russell county year round have never been in Ohio since new ! There are probably over 2500 boat storage sheds throughout Russell county with out of state boats kept here over 60 days a year not paying A DIME in Ky boat property taxes !

this can not be a Russell Co. Only issue. if russell county is the only one collecting taxes on these boats we will push all of these people and the money they spend here to counties on the other side of the lake. this has to be inforced by the state, state wide, not just here. many local families who depend on tourism for a living do not need this russell county only issue pressing in on the industry on top of a bad economy, high gas prices, and the bad publicity about the water level / dam repair.

The state boat tax collectors from the state revenue cabinet will be visiting all over the state collecting past due boat property taxes on out of state boats kept in Ky 60 days or more. This is not just a Russell county issue.

they will not move their boats, and if they do because they do not want to pay their fair share of taxes, then good riddance. most will gladly pay their fair share because they want to keep their boat in this area of the lake and because they belieeve in fairness.
