Then if they are so good ,Dr Perkins was the one to see my step mom and said she was having a panic attack and when we got her to Lexington she had had a massive heart attack March of 2011 and her heart doctor said only 15 % of her heart is working and there is nothing else they could do for her,The specialist in Lexington said if they had given her nitro glycerin she wouldn't have had a massive heart attack, and has signs documents stating the facts to her lawyer which she will be lucky to be around by the time it is settled.I know they are a lot of addicted people on drugs, she wasn't asking for any pain medicine, she couldn't breathe her chest felt like a elephant was sitting on her and her left arm was hurting. They need to be more thorough so this doesn't happened to no one else loved ones.If this was your mom, sister, aunt how would you feel.

If this was my mom or sister I would not be concerned about hiring a lawyer, sounds to us you are just after monet first and mom second. If I were on the jury I would vote zero award.

We didn't hire the lawyer she did because she is only 54 and has six grand babies that are from 8 to 14months old,she is mad that she wont be around to watch them grow, the money that she gets is going toward her grand children when they reach 21 and for her funeral expenses,it takes a cold hearted person to think that her kids care about the money and I'm her stepdaughter and wouldn't receive anything and I shouldn't and could care less about the money,I care that my dad is going to lose his wife the woman he loves,I'm only saying that the Doctors should care more and be more careful and order test to be done instead of assuming that she was having a panic attack, which they did none of these things. If it was your mom would you want the person response able for your moms health, and that it could have been preventive.

I can't understand why the hospital has to charge you an arm and a leg just to see use their ER. They would be better off to have a walk in room and not charge people to use their emergency room. They would get a lot more patients. They have walk ins in Danville and Somerset. A person is crazy to use the Russell County Hospital and have to pay them $100.00 to $200.00 above the person's insurance. They don't usually do anything for you unless you are on your death bed. You have to go to your regular doctor if not better the next day anywasy. After you learn their old tricks, you need to wait if you can and go to your own regular doctor the next day.

The emergency room is for emergencies. If it is not an emergency, wait and go to the office. You pay more for emergency care and your insurance won't cover it if it is not needed. If you just have a sore throat or sinus infection, wait and go to your doctor. If you're having a heart attack or stroke, then you do need emergency care.

Everybody knows that the emergency room is for emergencies, but sometimes you are sick even if you are not having a heart attack or stroke especially if it is on the weekend. I don't think anyone will abuse the emergency room and just go for a sore throat or sinus infection unless they have a medical card and get all their bills paid for free. If any of my family is having a stroke or heart attack, I hope that we have time to go to another hospital that is up to date of what is going on with their patients.

I'm very appreciative of the Russell County Hospital as an employee and patient/family member. They are not a "bandaid station" as referred to by others in this thread. If you are referring to the "census" at the hospital, you are a disgruntled employee, or you would not know this terminology, please find a job elsewhere. We have excellent nursing staff and physicians, please talk to your neighbors...I'm sure someone has had a family member or friend who has been saved in the emergency room.

To SAD: My prayers go out to your mother. I am not a fan of RCH. But; my 19 year old daughter had to go there earlier this year. They believed she was having a panic attack. However; they did run all the appropriate tests (EKG, Blood work, I.e.) to make sure it wasn't anything else.

having lived here all my life and knowing how it was before we had a hospital i find it really disturbing the BS that is on here about the russell co. hospital. anywhere u go to any hospital there are issues and mistakes made. russell county is a very very good hospital i know as i have been treated at other places before the hospital was here. most of the gripes here are from persons who do not work or who will not work and have no conception at all of what is involved to care for persons, so i think and know how important our hospital is and how important it is to russell county.

I truly pray that RCH is doing better in the ER. Maybe with new management it is getting better.

I need to know ,why do we pay taxes to keep this hospital open then when you go you still recieve a bill for services.Ok what if the library, school,& other publicaly funded things charged a fee we would be outraged because we already paid for it with our taxes including medicare .If we pay taxes we should use it for free because in theory we own it .Just like the roads ,school ,library ,just wondering .

My question would be why do we even have a hospital in RC? They clearly cannot and do not handle emergencies. I mean, let's say you break a bone, you can only get an X-ray there. That's it. No treatment. You cannot be seen by an orthopedic. So why waste time going there? And if by chance they do put a little brace on your leg or arm until you can get to "another REAL medical facility", then the brace is if the utmost cheapest kind. Pitifully cheap and almost useless.

So, what are they there for? Just to house older people and insure that whatever their issue is they do in fact die? After of course their billed for everything they possibly can until the coverage runs out or will no longer approve testing.

Tell me what good the hospital does? I truly want to know.
Well, one of these days, your hateful ass may have a heart attack, or stroke, or any number of illnesses or injuries. When that happens, you just may be rushed to RCH and the nurses and Drs may just save your life; guess it would make perfect sense then, huh?

Why? You are correct. They should have an Urgent Care at the Hospital. Then, all of those people that utilize the ER as a clinic because "didn't want to wait all day at my Dr.", or "I can't afford to go to the Dr cause I don't have any insurance or money to pay them."(just so everyone knows, it is not St ER; the patron saint of free care: it still cost money, just isn't being paid, hence the prices are kicked up and the responsible, insurance carriers pick up the tab) and why shouldn't you have to wait a little while to get in to the ER? It is obviously not emergent enough for you to find your way to your Dr. What makes your visit a raging emergency at the ER? There are good/bad nurses and Drs everywhere, there are great nurses/Drs that may just be having a bad day, or rough spot in their life (are you ALWAYS great at what you do?). There are bad nurses/Drs that make life saving decisions from time to time. I have worked at several ERs, some big level 1 trauma, some small outliers like RCH and I am a good medical professional, but I am human and make mistakes. It is funny, too, how most of the shit seen in an ER is there because of stupidity; "oh, I'm sorry YOU stuck a bottle Rocket in YOUR ass and it burnt YOUR scrotum", but how is your lunacy my problem? Oh, cause you're here. "Oh, I'm sorry you have had chest pain/cough/vaginal bleeding...(insert ailment) for 2 weeks and now it's an emergency." Really? Idiots, learn what an emergency is, when you should seek professional help and when you should, oh I don't know, maybe try taking care of your fool selves before you come in, demand we fix all your problems(within 10-15 minutes of your valuable time or you'll tell everyone how horrible we are...yeah? Well guess what, RCH has pretty much seen everybody in RC so they all have a pretty good idea how BAD a place it is, yet somehow, they ALWAYS come back!) if most of the general public would use the ER correctly, i.e. for EMERGENCIES, there would be no waiting cause that facility just doesn't see that many EMERGENCIES!

What was her blood pressure in RCH? Maybe, genius, Nitroglycerin was contraindicated at the time of her arrival. Did she take aspirin before coming? How long had she had chest pain? Did the Brilliant Dr at Lexington pinpoint the EXACT time she had her MI? Is there a possibility that her labs/EKG DID NOT indicate she was having an MI while she was there? Is there a possibility, that she could have actually infarcted on the LONG ASS drive to Lexington? It is easy for a Dr that wasn't at RCH to tell families and pt's how HORRIBLE there care was at another facility without knowing what was happening at the other facility.

You are an Ignorant ass. Go to any ER, even RCH, and just observe how an ER is abused. Make sure you hear the comments from the Patients. And I hope you have time to get your family to whatever desired facility you chose, cause God knows, patients ONLY DIE at RCH.

Very right with folks going to ER for all sorts of NON-Emergency common ailments.
The wild ones are the ones that wait until 3 am because they haven't had a 'Movement' in 4 days. I think I might have made the trip at 3 1/2 days.

I agree 100%. I'd certainly rather be in Russell co Hospital than Somerset. Every hospital probably has thier own set of horror stories but lets be thankful we can get as good a care as we get. Some places are not that blessed. Someplaced you have to drive 50 miles ormore to get to a hospital at all.
