I got stuck in traffic, as I was coming home from work on the parkway. It was obviously fairly bad because I came upon it while two helicopters were flying in. It was INSANE. Traffic was backed up for at least 30 minutes and it's untelling how long it had been before I got there. I don't know who it was, I just know that the vehicle which suffered the most impact had a Virginia license plate. There were also like 3 cops (I think Nick Bertram was one of them) and for some reason, an ambulance from both Pulaski and Russell County was also on the scene.

It would really be thoughtful of the forum watchers if they would allow the next of kin to be notified BEFORE the names are announced to the world on Topix.

Friday, March 6, 2009 -- Five persons were injured, at least three critically, in a two vehicle crash this afternoon around 4:20 on the Louie B. Nunn Cumberland Parkway, about 7 miles east of Russell Springs. The cause of the wreck is still under investigation by Trooper Dewayne Holder, an accident re-constructionist with KSP Post #15. WJRS NEWS has been able to confirm from emergency service officials that three persons were critically injured and had to be flown from the scene by emergency helicopter for treatment at Lexington hospitals. Two other injured persons were taken by ambulance to the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset for treatment. Sources tell WJRS NEWS the most critically injured victims were a mother and two children from out of state. WJRS NEWS will update this story with more information once the KSP accident report is released.

They had both lanes closed because they landed 3 helicopters on the parkway. I was coming home from work and was stopped in the traffic, close enough that I could see all the emergency vehicles and people. This was about 15 til 5 (our time). Traffic didn't start to move again until about 5:30. I don't know exactly what happend to cause the wreck, it doesn't matter. What matters at this point is that people are praying for these people and their families. If what was said on here is true, their is someone, somewhere who has just lost their whole family. And as for the person trying to turn this topic into something other than a prayer chain---May God have mercy on your soul!!!!

<quoted text>If that was the case why would cops close the east bound lanes if the head on was on the west side of the Parkway where they could divert westbound traffic onto 80 at the westbound Nancy exit?

Friday, March 6, 2009 -- A two vehicle crash late Friday afternoon on the Louie B. Nunn Cumberland Parkway has claimed the life of a Blackwater, VA. woman and her son and critically injured two other children. State Trooper Dewayne Holder's report says the fatal collision occured around 4:20 about 7 miles east of Russell Springs when a 2001 Chevy being operated by 28 year old Candice Elaine Johnson was traveling east on the LBNCP when Johnson apparently lost control of her car, it crossed the median and was struck in the passenger side upon entering the westbound lane by a 2001 Chevy being driven by Joseph Matthew Dalton, 40, of Russell Springs. Trooper Holder says Johnson and three passengers, Kaden Johnson, age 3, Christian Johnson, age 5, and Logan Bruner, 8 months old, were all belted and/or in child restraint devices. All four were transported to the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington where Candice and Kaden Johnson were both pronounced dead. Dalton was not injured in the collision according to the police report. The parkway was shut down for an extended period of time while emergency service personnel worked the scene including three emergency helicopters landing at the scene to transport the victims to the Lexington hospital.

I am a grandmother and step mom to those in question. I have to keep busy to be ok and talking about it sometimes helps. My step dauther and one grandson were taken. He was age 5. The 6 year old is stable and improving but still in intensive care. The baby will be 6 months old next week. He is critical but there are hopes for him. He is responding but with a lot of problems. Please! Please! Pray for them. It's been really really hard. It's like a dream a BAd dream right now. We are a God believing family and He is with us now though it's really tough. She was on her way home from her sisters near Bowling Green to Blackwater, Va.
Pray! Pray! Pray
