School bond

If they really and truly cared about the kids they wouldn't have spent money on things not needed and done what needed to be done. If a new middle school is needed so badly why wasn't it built instead of this "dickie dome"? Why was a cheap unregulated curriculum purchased? If these kids education is so important why wasn't the necessities bought when the money was there?

My last post was a serious question. Not intended to be rude. I'm just really concerned about the education in Henderson.

I hope people will vote for or against this bond for what they believe will be good for all kids, current and coming up. Please do not vote no just because you do not like or trust current Board Members. If you do not like something, work to change it. But do not blindly vote NO just because of past action or inaction. That would be as wrong as blindly voting YES because you like who is on the Board.

Please vote Responsibly. I for one think it is needed and will be voting Yes.

I understand it is for what's best for the kids. I just keep asking myself these two questions. 1."Do I really want to entrust the board with another bond after the I'll decision to pitch a plan to the public about Wylie, and then it's changed without telling the public?" 2. "Do we trust a board or school administration with a large amount of money after the reckless decision about the indoor practice facility when there were so many other pressing needs" ?

What I would like to ask is this.

Is the middle school is such bad shape that if it doesn't get rebuilt that people should consider sending their children to another school?

This is an honest question.

I am voting yes BUT I think it would go a long way with the voters if the school board would man up and say "We Screwed up. We should not have built the practice field until the schools were taken care of. " They were idiots and now the kids are suffering. Was Boles here then or was that Brown? I know changinging Wylie was Alexander's idea.

Radar, I TOTALLY see where you are coming from with these questions. I have found myself asking the same questions! Here is what I have decided:
(1) As I understand it, the language in the bond this year calls for the money to be used specifically for a middle school educational facility. I don't think the board would be allowed to use the funds for anything else.
(2) Several of the board members have changed since the Student Activities Center was built. I have personally used the facility in the past and think it is actually great facility for our community. Having said that, the board SHOULD NOT have built it without having some input from the community. If our community passes a bond for the middle school, the board can't misuse those funds. If they do, I will personally be at the front of a line to lodge complaints with the Texas Ethics Commission.

I have attended HISD Board of Trustees meetings for about the past six months and have talked to the Board members about the need for this project. I am not personal friends with anyone on the board, but I have spent enough time with them now that I feel like I can trust them to do the right thing this time!

smh, this is a great question! If I had the choice between HMS and another middle school for my children, I absolutely would choose another middle school for my chilren to attend. If you would like to tour the facility, I would be willing to contact someone in the district to give you a personal tour. Could maintenance have done a better job over the years? ABSOLUTELY!!! However, there are MANY issues at the current middle school that no maintenance crew could have corrected. It's just an old outdated building that has run its course. Let me know if you would like a tour!

If you personally don't have the money to build a big brand new house for your family it would not be built-correct? Personally I am more worried about giving our teachers the money they deserve than having a new school. I want a big new house bad myself but then I look at my bank account and realize it won't happen. With that said I will vote yes for the new school but I do see the level of concern folks have about new debt.

Yup, thanks for a 'YES' vote! I definitely agree that more money is due to our teachers!!! I spent almost 10 years as a school business manager myself and was severely underpaid. Public educators just don't receive everything they are due and that is a sad thing in our nation. Unfortunately, bond funds can't be used for salaries and TEA dollars can't be used for buildings. Again...thanks for a 'YES' vote!:-)

Is this going to be an annual event? The taxpayers have already voted NO.... Twice. The people have spoken but apparently the school board is either deaf or defiant of the people's wishes. Instead of spending money to build a new school they should have a bond proposal to buy themselves a clue.

Well I guess we the voters decide-after all isn't that what an election is called for. At least we ALL have the right to vote whatever we believe needs to happen. But at least your smart aleck comment makes you feel good. While I for the most part would vote no on my behalf I am smart enough to vote yes for the kids in the coming years.

It's been called Twice! And both times it was a NO! Why would you keep calling for a vote over and over. I guess they think people will get tired of the issue and just vote yes just for it to end? I mean two NOs should be enough to tell you to drop the issue.

It wasn't that long ago that I was there and it didn't seem as bad as people say. If it is in such bad shape that safety is an issue then the school district should have notified the parents and closed the school down.

I appreciate your involvement with the school board, our schools, and the children. I do feel better know about the wording of the bond that they can only use it for a new middle schhol. I would really like for you to convey to the board and administration that if they approve a plan of design and pitch that plan to the voters then they need to stick to the plan that was voted on.

If you fix problems as they arise, you wouldn't have to always want to build a new school. Seems like they kinda stopped with maintaining the building- middle school- so they could make it sound worse than it needed to be.
