Dont Mind if I Do

Last Week John McDonald wrote a letter to the editor. Here is a link to the garbage.

Mr. McDonald I hope you read this because I have many problems with what you have written. I have no problem with you expressing your opinion on the police. The Good Lord knows I have many opinions abou them. However, I don't believe for one second that we are going backwards.

First of all, if anyone reading this is one of the patrons of the bars and clubs that is afraid to go because you fear being pulled over after you leave, then do us a favor and continue to stay home. The only reason you would fear being stopped after you leave is if YOU ARE DRUNK. I highly doubt that these brave men and women are fearful that they will be yanked from their cars and beaten. Let me say it again in case you missed it. If youre not intoxicated when you leave, then you have NOTHING TO FEAR. If you are intoxicated when you leave, then you need arrested. That's on YOU not on the police. I don't care how they take drunk drivers off the street, as long as they are doing it.

Secondly, you praise Mayor Bostic for corresting this problem, and claim now that we are going backwards? With the exception of Chief Tucker, Assistant Chief Click, and Meek the remainder of the police officers we have were hired BY THE BOSTIC ADMINISTRATION.(Note that two have just graduated the academy and are currently being trained.) It would seem to me that replacing experienced police officers with the current "youthful" officers we have now is a problem that Bositc himself created and that his four years were the backward stage.

Finally, buy a police scanner. You question why the didn't stop you the moment they witnessed a violation. As is common practice around the country, police officers check the status of the vehicles plate prior to making a traffic stop. This a a safety measuer in the event the vehicle flees or the driver attempts to assault the officer prior to identifying the driver. This requires the officer to either radio into dispatch the plate number, and then wait for a response from dispatch, or operate their in car computers. Sometimes mobile inter-net is slow and its complicated to type and drive.

Yes, our city department is young but their tactics are apparently successful. You have proven that their aggressive stance against drunk and impaired drivers is working. Keep it up RPD. Every drunk driver that fears being arrested and stays at home is a success. Don't listen to a word Mr. McDonald is saying. Next time he fails to signal or speeds, write him a ticket. Give the old man something to really b*tch about.

I think the point here is, while they are wasting everyone's time harrassing someone for not using their turn signal or not using it soon enough, they could be arresting a real drunk driver or someone committing a more dangerous violation. There is more to this story than you know.

I agree with "Don't Mind". I always follow the traffic laws. So when asked if i used my turn signal I would say Yes because I always do. Seems that maybe Mr.Mc was asking for a reason to be pulled over. And I look at the cops stopping cars like fishing... gotta throw a few little ones back before you get a keeper!

It's always been kind of a power trip with these local yokel Rushville cops.
They're kind of a modern day version of Buford T. Justice.
Remember that former Rushville cop Jim Trout? He was full of himself. Just an egotistical maniac.

well if there is more to this story than we know why wasnt it included in his rant to the editor. Seems kind of foolish to leave important parts out dontcha think??? if you expect us to believe that this is more than just stupidity then please provide the details curious minds would love to know. We may not think hes such a douche bag if we did

When I lived on Rushville and I was younger I use to drive a junky car, I was 19 and followed constantly and pulled over a few times for odd reasons. It was like they saw a young girl.and realize they're not going to get anything out of pulling me over. Once I was pulled obverse for "slightly swerving" after we had an ice storm. A lot of things they do are not right or unnecessary, I have a lawyer friend who told me they're not following the rules themselves. I visit my parents often and I somehow always get the wrath of their mistakes. Recently I as on the bridge going towards south 3 and an office did a Uturn from the other direction almost hitting my car, I had to slam my breaks really hard and went sideways and he just kept going I thought about reporting it but didn't. Since then its happened multiple times, is this their way of showing their suposed power over the community?! I have also witnessed a very large officer pull a subway worker out and throw her on the ground and sat on top of her. She was expressing no resistance and she was a tiny woman. My mind is blown with the police force in my old hometown. Its not like this in other communities.

5 or 6 years ago you were all complaining about the police officers we had. Boy do I wish we had them back now. Like them or not they only f**ked with the poeple that needed f**ked with. That's the way police officers should be. We ran 'em all off and they ain't coming back. Let's stick with what we got now cause what may come might not be better!

A lot of women were hit on if pulled over by a Rushville cop. You know, if the gal gave the cop head, he wouldn't write her a speeding ticket. That Jim Trout character, mentioned above, was known to offer "an alternative" to writing a ticket.

Isn't Old McDonald a drinking buddy of Merv and Billy's? I am guessing he is expecting the same level of discretion the cops gave him when his buddies were in office and would drink with him in to the wee hours of the early morning.

The post I read on here crack me up. The people who post negative comments have probably been busted before and hate the police. I just laugh at the stuff they write. Here's my advice Go Out and Get A Job and stop using tax payers money to live off of!!!! If you don't break the law then you have nothing to worry about. Don't Mind If I Do, Good To Know, and Hmmmm, I wouldn't even waste your time arguing with these people, they probably don't know their right from left.

I haven't had any problems from cops in this town. From birth to date, so how is it that some have so many negative story's and most have no complaints at all? I get the feeling you can solve that million dollar question on your own.
