I'm surprised they didn't charge to fill up their gas tanks.

That is awful. I was wondering why he was coordinating his own event. Seems like a lot of stress for him to have to of gone through.

I have been involved with a lot of benefits around Rushville. But I have yet heard of one like Barts Ride. I know the Eagles riders have done alot of good for people in the past. However I have never heard of any benefit Ride where the person you do the benefit for has to foot the bill. The reason we all call it a benefit is to help those with finacial needs. I also realize Bart did get some money from this benefit to help cover some bills. What I dont understand is why he had to pay almost 800 dollars to cover the cost of the shirts for the ride. And on top of that pay another 300 dollars for chicken to feed everyone. What the hell is going on here? This is never the way we have ever done a benefit. Whos idea was this? The man was already in financial turmoil. He didnt even know he would have to pay for his benefit up front. And to top it all off The Eagle Riders Dont even buy an arm band for the ride. Bart had to sell t5he shirts in hopes he wouldnt go in the hole over it. Sounds to me like the Eagle Riders were in this to ride their bikes from bar to bar and drink beer then come back for a free meal. And by the way how much did Larry charge to DJ?
Get your facts straight before getting on here and blowing off about things you dont know....number one Bart did not have to foot the bill that is what family is for. I cant even believe that you would think that the Eagle Riders would have the funds to supply food for any benefit. We are on a limited budget...Bart did not have to go out and sell the T-shirt on his own in fact he didnt even have to have them made that was his choice..he did not pay for the t-shirts that comes out of the benefit money raised just as all other benefits. they didnt have to buy $300.00 in chicken,,again that is what family & friends do they donate food, drinks, paper goods etc...and get auction items. Up until the last few day before the benefit the Eagle Riders were told that a hog was being donated and everyone was bringing sides and music would be provided. The Eagle Rider's did pay for their arm bands just like everyone else did. thats what the cost of the ride covers...Bart knew from the start what is expected of him and his family it states it right in the application..you are more than happy to come down and look at one..Larry did not charge for the DJ, it states on the application we have option to charge for DJ and Chase truck, but we have not charged anyones beneift for either.
The Eagles donated the ball room for the benefit that would have been a $75.00 cost, the two Eagle Rider bartenders donated there time, the ride was set up by an Eagel Rider who used his own vehicle and fuel to do a dry run. We are PROUD Eagle Riders and have helped alot of people..we did this ride knowing that Bart had two insurances to cover his cost. So get your facts straight before getting on here and putting us down...also next time have the guts enough to add you name instead of hiding behind a cover name...It takes a lot of hard working commited people to put on a benefit that includes the Eagle Riders, family and friends
I have the guts to stand up for the eagle Riders

If it was Barts' responsibility to provide everything then how is it an "Eagles Ride"? Sounds to me like he would have been better of going door to door asking for help. If the Eagles put their name on it you would have thought the Eagles would have done the benefit and not the victims family

Danny, you do not understand the situation. Eagle riders pay a membership fee to join which I believe is $10. Approximately 40 people (if that many) would have $400 to spend in their treasury that year. We do not have access to the club's money, and how many rides do we support a year? Maybe 10 or more. Get a grip people...all Eagle Riders organizations operate on the same principle. A ride is based on donations and help from friends and family of the benefit person.

I wasnt trying to offend you i was just stating if I am gonna do all the work then why would i let a group come in and put their name on it. Id put my own name on it and if the eagles wanted to join us for a ride the ok, and if not then ok. Im not gonna put all that work into something and let someone else take all the credit.

I'm not sure why anyone is bashing the eagles riders. If bart and peggy were that hard up for cash & donations, maybe peggy shouldn't have bidded on and won all of the auction items with donated cash money from the bartenders.

I was just thinking the same thing !! That money could have gone toward any out of pocket exspense !! This family was very ill prepared for a benefit. Oh and something else ! After purchasing a $5.00 ticket for a meal, I was later ask for a donation to help cover the cost of Food ?????????

If you have insurance that covers all your medical Exspense's, WHY DO YOU NEED A BENEFIT ?

@ wanna know. There are other expenses besides medical! Like your basic bills! With any major illness atleast one bread winner has to quit their job! So therefor you can't pay your rent, utilities, for groceries, gas back & forth to the doctors, pay for a place to stay while the sick one is in the hospital, food while you are with the person at the hospital, ect...! Not everyone has the extra money in the bank to cover all of this! That's why they do benefits! I take it you have never had anything like this happen to you or you wouldn't have posted that! The Hankins may not be in that kind of situation but if it is the family & friends job to help with the cost of a benefit then it should be up to the family if they want to have one just to honor the sick person & give them a day to celebrate their life!

First off we are very thankful for what the Eagle Riders did for us. By the way my brother is the one who bought almost everything at the benefit because no one was bidding and he loves his father. MY father never said anything about footing the bill so please keep mouths shut. If you have questions please contact the Eagle's. This has hurt my fathers feelings. He is so thankful for everyone attending and everyone at the Eagles for even letting him have a benefit.
