I have taken vitamin c tablets off and on for a few years now. I have always heard that it boosts your immune system. recently, a study was done that said too much vitamin c can lead to cancer. What is the truth about vitamin c?

I have taken 500 millagram vitamin c tablets once a day for 30 years. At the first sign of a cold I will take 2000 millagrams once a say for 3 days. Sometimes I get a cold sometimes I don't.
Are they safe? I don't know. So far they have not hurt me.

I think it is better with Meller Yeller and xanax.

Vitamin C in doses of 500 mg and up several times daily is said to promote natural immunity (Nobel Prize winning chemist Linus Pauling and others). Its activity is enhanced by chelated zinc, the herb echinacea and especially the herb andrographis, which has been described as a natural antibiotic of unheralded ability). If I were knocking on death's door, I would take vitamin C, andrographis and zinc gluconate. Unlike pharmaceutical antibiotics, these supplements are claimed to be effective against viruses as well as bacteria. As always, these statements are not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Adminstratiom, the lapdog of the American pharmaceutical industry, or by your local medical witch doctor.

Vit C is water soluble. If your body does not use it, you eliminate it.
I googled Vit C and cancer and saw nothing about it causing cancer. I take 1000-3000 mg a day.

Jerky is correct. Surplus amounts of vitamin C are eliminated in the urine and feces. The only drawback is possible intestinal turbulence end diarrhea. Use loperamide (Imodium AD) if necessary to counteract that side effect. You are in good hands with vitamin C and andrographis. You can't kill yourself.

theres a study linking everything to cancer.. every single thing you put in your mouth has the potential to have an adverse reaction if you either take to much or take to little.. and certain nutrients are only preforming at their optimal if you take them in conjunction with another certain nutrient.. and everybodys needs are different. I honestly believe that if you listen and pay attention to your body it will tell you what it needs...and what it doesnt need...

You are prolly right, Carter. Are you into Zen? I don't know how most people would know to pay attention to their bodies, much less how they would understand what the body was trying to tell them. Intuition maybe?

The research world doesn't help much. For decades Linus Pauling, Adelle Davis and others were telling us we needed to be taking several grams of vitamin C a day, not the 30 mg called for by the MDR (minimum daily requirement). The medical authorities said no, vitamin C was no help at all against the common cold or anything else. To prove it, they ran several studies at 30 or 60 mg daily, which is barely enough to prevent an obvious deficiency disease like scurvy. It's the same with most other nutritional questions. The medical and health establishment simply will not conduct research using megadoses or non-pharmaceutical substances. There's no profit in it and it doesn't make sense to them. So we have a bunch of theories and no one willing to test them. The consumer is on her or his own. Run your own tests and write your own user's manual.

You are correct MH.

There are some wonderful alternative answers to health care. Pumping up the immune system with diet and supplements is not brain surgery.
We need to remember that pharmaceutical companies are in business to make money...not to keep us healthy. A healthy population that takes supplements and eats well does not a profitable 3rd quarter make.
Diabetes 2 could be greatly reduced with cinnamon and honey.(google it) and a 10 minute walk a day. I would at least try it before I put a needle in my gut everyday.

Perscription for Nutritional Healing, is a very good book for better understanding your physical issues. It is available on Amazon.com for $7.00 used.
It is considered the bible of alternative healing.

Daily Horoscope for December 28

Pisces

This is another good day to be tactful, and if anything you'll be even more successful than you were yesterday. This is not to be sneezed at, so seize the opportunity to talk to people who can sometimes be very touchy or who need to be handled with kid gloves. If you meet someone who's older or more influential than you, you'll be a big hit with them.
