St. Paul homeowners urged to try 'greenhabbing' - for cheap

Full story: TwinCities.com

"Oh, goody! Oh, goody!" she says. Peterson has just learned about a cheap little gizmo - a chunk of foamy plastic perfectly shaped to cover the drafty but otherwise charming pulleys on her double-hung windows.

We had an energy audit performed on our home back in late 2007. More and more local utilities are offering them for free. What might have been the best aspect of is that the energy audit made us more home energy aware.

Shortly threafter, we started to collet home energy conservation suggestions from hundreds of people across the U.S. on ways they use to reduce the consumption of electricity, home heating oil, natural gas, etc. in their own homes.

http://dailyhomerenotips.com/energy-conservat...

To date, the above listing contains more than 240 home energy conservation tips, of which 100+ cost absolutely nothing to do and a further 75+ cost next to nothing. Better yet, the vast majority of these suggestions are simple and easy to do.

Focusing on reducing non-renewable energy resources consumption in the home, and teaching one's children's how to do it, is one of the best investments a home owner can make. Being 'green' in the home directly and immediately reduces that household's utility bills month after month after month after ..... and that's in after tax dollars.

Being 'Green'= Saving Money.

Hey people, chalking windows and turning down the water heater temp is NOT being "green" Most people have been doing all these things forever and we call it "being CHEAP". None of these steps are anything new. But I guess the new secular religious "movement" can all pat each other on the back and get stories printed in the press about how concerned they all are to be called "greenies" instead of "cheapies". I will never call myself "green" but rather call myself cheap.

Does the government have a program for the distribution of free caulk?

I'll need a caulking gun too. Please advise.

I hear just after dusk, downtown on Hennepin Ave. offers this program.

I like the story about fat people causing global warming, instead placing "a chunk of foamy plastic perfectly shaped to cover the drafty window cracks"
perhaps we could find a better location for the plastic foam?
Sad but true

Yeah, ain't this wonderful? Let's all follow these tips--work our butts off. Guess what happens afterwards? Xcel isn't earning enough money and it will raise our energy costs even higher! My work has saved me --nothing as my heating costs have been at least 25% greater! Oh, I forgot--had I not made the changes I probably would have endded up living in the street. Maybe next year...

Daily Horoscope for December 30

Taurus

It's no good - the prospect of visiting the post-Christmas sales has become too tempting for you to resist any longer. No matter what you're doing today, you'll try to squeeze in the opportunity to dash around some of your favourite shops and see what's on offer. You could snap up some bargains but you should guard against the urge to splurge on items that you don't really want or need. The price of something may have been slashed but the acid test is whether you'd still buy it if it were full price. If not, leave it in the shop!
