Is Ruidoso's Bonito Lake ruined?

Jul 11, 2012 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Carlsbad Current-Argus

Once a fishing and camping retreat among cool Ponderosa pines, Bonito Lake is now filled with silt and ash from the Little Bear fire and is no longer viable as a drinking water source for the city of Alamogordo.

Several weeks ago, I posted a question on one of the Mayor's posts about the quality of the water coming through the rotten water lines. I asked what location the samples that are tested are taken from.(Are the samples taken from fire hydrants/other sources throughout the neighborhoods, or are they taken from the wells/reservoir before the water goes through the lines.
I never received an answer. There have been several questions asked that have never been answered (why there is always such a big turnover with city employees, etc.)
Does anyone else know the answers to these questions? Apparently the mayor isn't going to follow-up.
Topix is not the normal avenue for communication with city officials. She has posted a few times on different threads on Topix, expecting her to read every thread and reply to every comment directed towards her is a high expectation, You would be better to direct the questions to her city e-mail account.

Thats because the mayor is clueless.
You had better move fast so her decision do you harm, because we know Topix is all knowing.

Because the lion's share of that water is directed and reserved for the U.S. Gov't. Namely, Holloman AFB and WSMR. Don't believe me? Do an investigation on your own. Contact the Bonito Water District and ask them for distribution facts. I can with SOME certainty tell you that our government has water treatment abilities that are not shared with you there in Alamogordo.
Provide a link....that backs up your assumptions.

Of course the military has certain capacities that the city of Alamogordo does not hold, Mainly reverse osmosis capability, that is not new. You do know that 2007 was the 1st year the Bonita Lake water was used here, and it only provides 15% of water needs, We have other sources, but you knew all of this too.....

Not sure where the assertion "...2007 was the 1st year the Bonita Lake water was used here,...." came from but the fact is Bonito Lake has been a source of water for Alamogordo for many years. From 1997 - 2010 annual diversions averaged 1,270 AFY (Alamogordo and Holloman AFB diversions combined.

The City of Alamogordo and Holloman AFB each own rights to 1,449 AFY (combined 2,898 AFY) from Bonito Lake.

Read the City's 40 year water plan here:

An update to the plan should be released this year.

These were questions asked on threads that she started herself, asking for comments.
