The school board's wisdom in waiting
The Ruidoso Municipal School District board was wise last week to put off deciding whether to pay legal defense costs from public funds in the recall campaign against two of its members.

Great commentary. Thoughtful and well stated. Seems there is some wiggle room in regards to legal fees since Vincent and Gladden's fees were covered during their recall a couple of years ago.
Frankly, I think the recall should be dropped as I do not think the previous school board members will prevail in ousting the newly elected members. It is obvious from the previous attempt to recall the "old guard" and the fact they did not get re-elected the voters want a change. Maybe third time is the charm and they will finally get the message. School ratings were terrible, so improvement is necessary even if it means some discomfort for a while.
Ms. Lutterman's letter to the school board was a prime example of the problems with the popular "feel good" society. No matter what don't criticize and make anyone feel or look bad. The school board will bond together and be proud when honest achievement is made from raising the educational testing results for the benefits of the students. Maybe it is time to show the kids that it is not "who you know" but "what you know"!
