Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said Tuesday that it plans to spend $200 million inside the Dallas city limits.
The world’s largest retailer isn’t receiving any financial incentives from Dallas, Mayor Leppert said.“Wal-Mart going into southern Dallas changes the perception of areas that have been underinvested in for some time.”

Because Walmart doesn't believe it can make enough money in Royse City right now in order to justify the expense of opening a new store.

Just ask yourself, if Walmart thought it could make a decent buck in Royse City, do you think there is anything the city administration could do to prevent the largest and most powerful retail corporation IN THE WORLD from building there?

Just what we need, let's run all the mom and pop businesses that helped build Royse City, out of business. Then you can have your Walmart with the traffic and all night lighting and noise, etc. and it will do nothing to improve your quality of life.
There are some stupid people around here. They cannot see beyond their noses, or maybe they live on nice places out of town where they are not affected.
There are Walmarts approximately every 15 miles in every dirction, why do we need one in the middle of our town?

Personally, I would rather it be a Kroger and a Target. I have noticed that not all WalMarts charge the same price. Because of that, they will be able to make the extra money here, while running our small businesses out of business. They will still be cheaper than the Shell or Tiger Mart and just a little better quality than Family Dollar. It seems there has been so much focus on bringing WALMART to Royse City that nothing else is being planned for the community. I really think our EDC manager is a great guy, but paying him around $100,000.00 per year for all of these years has not been a bargain at all. That money could have been earmarked for so many other necessary improvements. Mainly that money could have bought, built and supplemented a Youth Sports Facility. I figure we have paid at least a million dollars over the past 10 years for Economic Development in Royse City and we really do not have anything at all for the investment we have made. I really think I am being very conservative with that dollar amount as well. Arguments could be made that anything we do have was in direct correlation to that committee and it's chairman, but really all of that would have been here just because of growth alone. I just do not understand why we continue to dig a hole? But again, he has been a great representative for our town and I'm sure something will surface someday because of that position.

I'm not sure of the connections or (who has what on who). I agree with the poster about cutting excess spending including this EDC person as he pointed out. In the private sector, if you do not produce/generate/recover your earnings in workproduct, you don't last in your job. Should be no different working for Royse city. The problem in RC is there is no accountability for anyone. Taxpayers gave up and stopped caring because they dont believe anything will ever change. Sadly, what is changing is people are moving out now more than ever and its not due to the economy.

Carla, if your the person I think you are, you've been around for awhile like me, and yes it is sad to say but I agree that all those of us who cared and kept the faith through many a screw up, have finally given up.

Nothing changes for the good in Royse City. It seems when change is suggested it is a citizens or a longtime business owners expense.

The EDC has done nothing to improve Royse City.
Imagine what we could have accomplished with his salary. No, that would take kindness and consideration of one another and too many of these folks don't know what they are talking about on this forum. So sad.

Thanks for what you do Carla.
