Hello :)

We are moving to RC this summer and are looking for things for my kids to do so they can meet other kids their age. What are the best things to do for a 6, 11 or 14 year old?

Not much in RC. There is a little water park and some ball fields, but really not much in RC itself. It's a small town with very little growth. Be it good or bad, it is what it is. Some move here for just that, and others complain about it. Several good churches. Whatever brings you here, welcome.

Sorry to here your moving there. Our kids were that age when we moved there and 5 years later all went from straight A's to barely passing. We finally got them away from there and all have improved dramatically.

Well.. I think education is what you make of it. Why were they failing? Was the work too hard? Kids not paying attention or not doing homework? Teachers not making sure they understand the assignments? I'd be more worried that they suddenly got better grades than if they suddenly started failing. Maybe, I don't know.

I've seen the water park, we have season passes to Hawaiian Falls (closest in Garland so we'll not be able to do it as often as we used to) I saw on the RC web site there's a library with toddler/prek things.. is there an older kid group?

Is there another forum/web site that has RC info on it? I found the facebook group "You Know You're From Royse City" and a few of the other ones, but there isn't a lot of chatter going on there.

What's the best method of getting Internet?:) We won't be in a subdivision so we're limited :( Doctors?

I agree with you on the education. A lot of good teachers and students. There are just a lot of parents who want the schools to raise their kids and don't take or teach responsibility/accountability, but that's everywhere.

We use suddenlink for internet and DirectTV for TV. No doctors here. Need to go to Rockwall, Greenville, Rowlett, etc. for that. No good information source online.

I'm not sure what your little ones can do in RC but I agree with your comment. My son was in DISD with failing grades, he hated going to school, he would be in tears almost everyday because he hated it so much. We moved to RC and he made a lot of friends and loved going to school. When he graduated last year he was sad that he couldn't go to school because he loved it so much. He did not pass with straight A's but he did pass with all A's and B's with the exception of one C which was in math.

What you see in RC is what you get. You will hear a lot of negitivity on here but the way I look at is you knew what RC had when you moved here so deal with it. I think it's a wonderful place to live. I love the southern hospitally that it still posses. We do not have a grocery store even though there is talk of a WalMart but I'm okay with that because Rockwall is only 15 minutes away. I live in the rural area and I don't believe I will ever move unless I absolutely have to. Welcome to RC.

Big mistake. You will basically have to visit other cities for just about anything you will need. You may think its not a big deal, but the gas really adds up. The city is bankrupt and can't afford to work on the roads and it's he'll in your cars. We have been through countless tires thanks to potholes.... Rockwall or even Fate would be a much better option...,

There is a Dr.s office right off of the interstate on the service rd. I think its Lakepoint Medical. Dr. Rester has been here for about 5 year I think and the other Dr. is new here, but I heard he is also now one of the team Dr.s for the high school.
There is an eye Dr. here and also a couple of dentist offices.
We have lived here for over 10 years and we like it just fine. It has grown faster than we wanted, but we like the schools and havent had any problems.
Welcome to RC!

I meant no disrespect to these doctors, I was simply unaware of them. Thanks for educating us. Do you use them?

We live in royse city and our kids love it. Great Italian chinese BBQ fish and Mexican restaraunts. Water park, large park with pond and ducks, city sports leagues. While it is 10 minute drive for something's I find it's well worth it and provides this town some insulation from all the crime and big city problems. Welcome to royse city as a Christian family we love it!!!

Enlighten me on where the great food is I have missed it. If you are talking Luigis and Soulmans pass the stuff you are smoking before you get there. I can honestly say that there are no great restaurants in this town. Mediocre yes great no.
Do some homework before you move here. The water bills will kill you if you plan on getting it from the city. And make sure you check on the cities history especially when it comes to tax hikes they seem to enjoy doing that.

It sounds like the 10 surcharge on water bill is "killing" you. If you can't afford that maybe you should look into downsizing. As far as food yes soulmans and Luigis both are great busy and crowded everytime I eat there.

Easy RCdad. No need for the downsize comment. I think the point is they (the city) keep taking and give back very little, and are rude on top of that. While like beauty, food preference is an individual taste, and I do like and frequent both Soulmans and Luigi's, neither have "great" food in my opinion. They are local and convenient, so yes, they do draw a crowd. Soulmans caters to and draws a lot of truck drivers. Nothing wrong with that, but again....

If you still have time to change your mind, you would be better off moving to another town. Most of us are trying to get out of Royse city but we have shrinking property values. You will be disappointed. Nothing here but inbreds and a good ol boy network that paralyzes any positive future.

NM - Didnt think you were being disrespectful, just figured you didnt know. I have used Dr. Rester, and yes, I do like him. Its nice to have a Drs. office so close.

I also like Soulmans and Luigis, and I really like Arboledas, but everyones tastes are different. Its all a matter of personal preference.

Kivutar will just have to try them and decide for themselves I guess.

I've heard a lot of good and bad about Rester. I personally don't care for him. But I will say if you want a prescription drug all you have to do is tell him what you think you need and he will give it to you. I know someone addicted to pain meds and he keeps them well supplied. I'm not familiar with the new doc. There's also PCA but I don't know if they ever have a real doc in there, may just be nurse practitioners but they are pretty good.

Moved here 6 years ago, love it. All the good ole boy stuff stays with the good ole boys, I just don't get involved. Have 3 kids close to your age group and the city leagues and schools have given them lots of friends and things to do. They all get great grades and love their teachers and their schools. I am still amazed at how clean they are, reminds me "Saved by the Bell" The eating is fine and you won't go wrong with Fish Camp, Arboledas, and many others. PCA is fine for medical and we do as much shopping as we can in RC. Sure we have to go to Walmart in Quinlan or Rockwall but I hate Walmart anyway. Movies and stuff like that are close in Rockwall (yes we have friends there too). Only being here for 6 years I wouldn't change a thing, except maybe the potholes.:) Welcome.

PS. Take all the negative stuff on this board with a chunk of salt. It is really out of control most of the time.

RC Cola - that was my opinion too honestly, We currently live in a small town (well, not compared to RC ;) and there are always people that are going to complain about where they live. I figure it's good to know where the potential potholes ( ;)) might be ..

My mother has lived near Royse City for about 20 years, but doesn't really interact with the same people I would be talking to, so she can't really help me when it comes to most of my questions. We are getting high MPG car to offset all the driving so we might even come out ahead.

We are excited to move, just wish it wasn't in the middle of summer when everyone is out of school.

I love Royse City and I have grown to love my streets, because it keeps me limber. I dodge one way and then dodge the other way and I have been building muscle just missing the potholes...LOL! I get concerned about how much is really being done to correct the many problems, but soon there will be a council, mayor and staff that will ..."Get 'er done"! And I truly love our Mayor, he is a funny old man, but he loves Royse City and always has. So Mr. Bailey will do the best with what he has, in the meantime he just has to play with the cards he was dealt.

There are plenty of really good places to eat in Royse City and our schools are the best we have ever been around. They are clean, bright, positive and my children really got excited with our move and with them starting to school in Royse City.

Rockwall is close enough for me and for anything I need, so until we get our WalMart, I am satisfied with my little short and enjoyable ride to the big city lights of Rockwall. And from the looks of Fate's economic and population boom, they will have everything anyone will ever need and they are less than five miles away.

Nothing wrong with our new home town of Royse City, Texas. We love the old school politics and just laugh at some of the same things that the city works on every month. I guess repetition and practice makes perfect...LOL!

And we really love Main Street and the old town feel, kind of like a page out of the past. Enjoy the town and the people and we believe we are living in heaven on our little piece of property in the heart of Royse City. God Bless everyone that lives here, because you make everyone feel so welcomed.
