My neighbors dog was hit (and subsequently had to be put down) yesterday morning at 7:45 a.m.(11/18) because a woman in a silver mini van decided that her speed on Meyers didn't matter.
I have owned a home on this street for four years and it never ceases to amaze me the amount of people that disregard the fact that they are driving through a neighborhood and the speed limit is 25 MPH. Regardless of the fact there is a large elementary school nearby, a lot of children live in the neighborhood people drive up and down that residential street as if it was 9 Mile road. Could it have been a child that was hit yesterday morning? You'd better believe it. Though the local schools have safety guards posted at the corners, the children cross in the middle of the block quite frequently. Would the driver that hit the puppy yesterday have stopped if it had been a child rather than a dog? Her lack of responsibility shown leads me to think probably not. I work in Berkley and every morning when I drive on Coolidge North of 696 and south of 11 mile I typically see at least two squad cars out patrolling or parked watching communter traffic. Believe me, there's not a person in my building that doesn't obey the 35 MPH speed limit in that area and knows exactly where it changes to 30 MPH. Is it going to take a tragedy before the reckless driving that occurs on this neighborhood street is addressed? |

I totally agree with you.
We are on E. Granet.. and it is a regular occurance for us to wake up in the middle of the night, to the sound of an engine racing down our street.. and most times it is the same person. While we have reported these incidents to the police, nothing has changed.. |

When I was in junior high there was a student hit and killed at the bridge on Meyers. I can't recall the year, but it was about 15 years ago.

I'd like to roll thru there with my 44" super swamper boggers roaring and my V8 with deafening exhaust scaring everyone, and good ol' Stars & Bars flyin high! That will clear the streets!
