I was pulled over on a suspended license first offense that I didn't know about. When I went to Court Judge d'agostini raised my bond to $5000 dollars, and called me a menace to society. I was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol when pulled over. I didn't have $500 on me to pay the bond so they took me to the bench then said I had to go to oakland county jail unless I didn't get someone to drop off the money within a half hour. The police officer hung up the phone on me while I was talking to my Dad and said he didn't have the time for me to explain directions. He was going to take me to jail. I had to tell the officer I was Bi polar and prescribed Valium and would have to be taken to the hospital first has I can't go without my medications which I didn't have. He let me wait after I threatened to sue them. My Dad picked me up and brought the bail money. I thought this was excessive for my first court date. I think they want to send you to jail and raise you're bonds only to get extra money. Plus she embarrassed me in court. They were rude and didn't treat you like a human being especially considering I didn't commit a major crime and at this point I pleaded not guilty. I felt the bond was set really high especially after I already paid a bond the day I got pulled over. Plus they keep ten percent of you're bond when you're case is over. I ended up having my case in front of Judge Barron and they owe me money back. I think Judge D'Agostini goes way too far their was no reason to try to send me to jail that day and set a bond so high it covered all my fines and court fees plus i got money back. It seems like a way too make extra money to me. I read before going their how their sentencing is so much harsher then other courts, which is unfair and not justified. I live in Birmingham and I know this is West Bloomfield court, just because these are wealthy high end cities in Michigan doesn't mean they have to treat people different then in other courts. I'm sure everyone makes mistakes and the people making comments about "if you didn't break the law in the first place" are missing the point. You still have to be judged fairly and I think first offenders deserve a chance to prove themselves. I think its funny people going to jail for an MIP but we have so much trouble putting the Corrupt Elected Politicians in jail. I wish Judges would focus more on that. I wish the legal and political system were more interested in catching and sentencing real criminals. I have to say Judge Barron was very fair and reasonable, and Judge D'Agonstini over uses her power to the point where was flat out shocked. Lucky I was able to afford an attorney that got my case moved to be in front of Barron. Even the probation officer said if I was in front of either of the other judges I would of been sentenced to Jail.
