Some guy tried to sell meat, said it was leftover from a Saltgrass delivery they made, It seemed like a scam. I didn't catch the name of the company-

Probably was a scam. Can't imagine a meat company going door-to-door in this day and age, especially trying to sell cuts destined for Saltgrass.
My wife has bought "high quality" meats from wandering merchants a couple of times.
Open the box, couldn't recognize a single cut and I wondered at dinner that night whether I was eating Fido ...

I'm guessing the company was Direct USA foods. It happened to me, and I was scammed. Here's my story:

Jan, sorry to hear about your experience. I'm also wondering about the food your neighbor eats ...
"I can't buy meat from the back of a truck," I said. But Mikey told me, "This is L.A. A lot of good food comes from the back of a truck."
Thanks for tipping everyone about the Direct USA folks.
In my wife's case, it was people claiming they were doing a fundraiser for a local church ... by selling boxes of meat ... yes, we're still married.

I unfortunately bought meat from one of the truck vendors. Good thing I only bought a small portion. You can get better meat at the Wal-mart meat department-no kidding. When we lived in Garland I bought some from a completely different company and theirs was pretty crappy too. Take my advice-don't do it.

Does anyone wonder if this meat is infected with Mad Cow Disease?

what you really have to watch out for is if the meat has chemicals or water pumped into the steaks. I have worked for a company that sells meat out of a truck and what we had was really good (i feed to my family) but companies like direct usa sell not so great meat. all in all if you decide to buy never pay more than $100 for the six pack meat case. that is generally what the person selling it to you pays. make sure it is the 45-50 cut pack too.

i got hit with a meat truck salesman 2 summers ago. was told all natural. did not recognize a single cut... except the bacon wrapped one :P. also just look at the ingredients on the side of the box. it's all pumped with so much crud. ...

I've sold meat out of my truck for 18 yrs., and I've got 1000's of satisfied customers. A good meat man will work his butt off to insure he keeps good product on his truck. Over the years I've had good suppliers go bad, and have changed suppliers about a dozen times. I've always taken care of any customer complaint, and I've kept my customers because of it. There are alot of bad actors in my industry, but that's because the health dept. won't do their job. Bottom line is...ask to see a health permit! If the guy has a household freezer in the back of a truck, then he's not legitimate. If he has a refrigerated truck which is dirty and in bad repair, then do the math on that one too. However, if he's clean and his truck is clean, then you're dealing with a proffessional. Read the labels on the box to find out if the meat is pumped or not. If it's not pumped meat, and it's USDA choice, then it's good meat. Work out a deal with him, he wants your business.

i agree with rod on this one. there are several legitimate meat companies out there that carry good product and will make a fair deal. best practice is to ask to see a business license and health permit. if they cant provide one then tell them to get lost and call the local police dept. i have been selling meat legitimately for almost 6 years now. and have always been fair with my customers. even the rude ones who think they know it all and make my day a living hell get a good deal. the bottom line is, I feed my family by feeding yours. why would i want to do bad business and not have repeat business which means i would have to always keep looking for new customers

I just had a guy saying he was from Choice Cuts Meats in Salt Lake trying to sell me meat. It sounded like a good deal, but my husband said no. The minute I apologized and said we couldn't buy any, he went from the the nicest guy to an absolute jerk. Wouldn't even respond to my goodbye and was practically running out of my house. (probably to keep the meat from thawing, but still....even if you lose a sale, you should still continue to at least be civil. I will never ever buy anything like this, even if I had permission now. That's a turnoff when a salesperson has to turn on you just because of a lost commission. All or nothing. Very disappointing.

Honestly, I bought a case of steaks in Atlanta one time and they were fine. I loved them. Remember your not supposed to thaw them out. My mother in Mobile, AL area has bought 3-4 times and likes it too. Good price and good meat every time???

I have been buying meat from trucks for the past 8 years. Most has been excellent. Some, not so great. I can tell by looking at them just like I do in the grocery store. My meat man can get Prime cuts for me that I can't find anywhere else. The problem is, I am moving to Hawaii. Does anyone know of a meat company there? It saves a ton on my grocery bill. If anyone has heard of a company there, please let me know! Thanks!

I wish I would have read these before I got scammed... I even tried to stop payment on the check after purchasing, but they called me and threatened to take me to small claims court. I didn't dare call their bluff so I caved and removed the stop payment. The meat was edible, but it certainly wasn't worth what I paid, that's for sure. If they ever come back to my house I will definitely say NO. And I'll warn all of my neighbors of this as well.

if you want a good deal on meat, this is how u do it people. find a farmer who feeds his cattle corn and grain. not grass fed. one who eats his own cattle. buy a half a cow or a whole one. have the farmer cut it into steaks and burgers. freeze it. there is no better bang for your buck. i promise.

nope, you're not off to bigger and better things because you'll never get a real job because you're a felon. I doubt you made 750k and you probably rent a crappy apartment and drive a beater because
you can't finance anything. All the people you scammed are better than you. How 'bout that loser?
