Leave a TV or stereo on when not home, slightly open blinds, turn on outside lights at night due to recent car burglaries. Watch out for your neighbors. Be aware of your surroundings. Lock car and house. We can do a city watch!

get a burglar alarm, they're cheap. And, go with a local company so you don't end up paying too much. In Rockwall there are companies charging less than $20 a month with no contract. They all use UL certified monitoring centers so don't let the big boys sale you what you don't need. just my opinion

I didn't want to promote a business on here. You're in NRH so i'm not sure who's over that way but you could google them. IMO just stay away from the largest.(i have my reasons)

Angie's list is made up of people that paid to be listed and do not have enough work on their own to be busy everyday. Really good carpenters, roofers, etc. are always busy and do not use a list from which clients are probvided. They get calls from repeat customers and referrals from other customers. Don't go for a second hand contractor that just needs the business.

I'm either badly fooled or you are sadly mistaken. I agree about referrals from other customers being the best way to find a service. And that's really what Angie's List is - reports from your neighbors but updated for the electronic age. I've used Angie's List for a couple of major home repairs and have been very satisfied. I also used a local painting contractor (new franchisee) who said he had been trying to get on Angie's List but the only way to do that was if a customer wrote him up. He said people promised to do it, but since it took time no one had come through yet. He mentioned another listing where he did pay to place an ad.

However, I'm always willing to learn and wonder about the basis of your statement. Do you have personal experience either as a listed business or as a customer?

Well by being a big jerk, we all know you aren't getting any "bizness"! What a toad.

I think this is too serious of a situation to be making fun of folks and joking about these criminals in our area. With our growth and the growth of the surrounding area we are seeing more and more criminals coming to our towns. Not only that, the people in Royse City are at disadvantage. So much of that town is rural and the police coverage is minimal at most, we do need to keep a watch on our homes and help your neighbor. Be aware of suspicious behavior, strangers in the area, cars, motorcycles, trucks, pickups and even people on bicycles could be checking for open garages, unlocked doors, elderly folks without protection, carelessness around your home or your neighbor's home. These times are bad and the bad people are out there waiting to get something for nothing. Do not be afraid to call 911 when it is necessary. Lock your doors at night, lock your car doors at night, keep night lights on if you have to, purchase security lights or motion lights to ward off unwanted people on your property.
I am just a homeowner that has had relatives robbed and believe me it is not a good feeling when you realize someone has entered your home without your consent.
The town of Royse City now sells alcohol and that is something that makes criminals think they are brave and they have the right to do whatever they want, including breaking the law. Drugs follow the alcohol and that leads to even more crime. We cannot change what some folks thought was necessary to make money for our town, but we can be more protective of our family and property.
Be safe and together maybe we can make sure these idiots are caught and put in prison for a very long time to come.

Yes, I have experience with Angie's list. I am a general contractor who demands the very best from any sub I use. I know the quality of their work. None of them have to be on any list to get business. They are in demand and there is usually a wait time, lead time in building speak. If a sub contractor tells you he can get to a project right away, be leary. They have no work and are waiting on the next job. That is why they are on Angie's list. The list was made up to make money for the founder, remember that.

Leave a radio on when you leave. Make sure it's loud enough to be heard from outside your front door. Close your blinds or curtains. Thieves window shop before they break in. Lock your gates if you have any. Once the thief determines you're not home, they often go into your backyard to enter your home. Don't leave papers on your lawn or fliers on your door.

A burglar will choose a home without alarm stickers and signs over a home with them. True story.

If you can't afford an alarm system, buy a set of yard signs and stickers from Ebay. Look for the real ones - ADT, Brinks.
Put them near your front door, garage doors- places a burglar would attempt entry.

Thanks, Citizen. I learned the hard way about taking the hairdresser who "wasn't busy right now." I'm sure the same rule applies here. We all need to be smarter consumers.
