JANUARY 2011 EDITION OF AMERICAN TOWMAN (Quote)

In Baldwin Park, Calif., tow boss Bill Salazar, owner of Royal Coaches Auto body and towing, has asked the city to give him a break on the kickback the city forces him to pay on its checkpoint program that impounds the cars of unlicensed drivers and other infractions According to sgvtribune.com , Royal Coaches charges $185
to tow a car or small truck and sends $111.55 of it to the city. Amazing isn't it, what towers allow government to shove down their throats. What's right? The Tower should be allowed to charge what they need to charge and the town can do the same. The town needs to raise money to balance its books, and so does a private enterprise. Towers need to press the issue of public safety and how suppressed rates hamper a towing company's ability to field safe trucks and qualified operators.

Is car parker really acting like the City is making the RC pay a "kick back"? It's called a franchise. Here's how it works:

The city, through it's various departments, but especially the police department, has the need to two vehicles regularly. Like with everything, if the city needs a service performed, they need to contract that service out or provide it in-house. Thus, once it's decided to contract out the service, that contract becomes lucrative to whatever company decides to do it. RC worked HARD to get that franchise b/c of the revenue they would make by being the City's "official" tow company. The city negotiated, as part of that agreement, to get a "franchise fee," sort of a tax on the business for the opportunity to make that money.

It's how government entities, without the ability to provide services or goods at a profit (or to unilaterally raise taxes) raise revenues to provide their constituents services.

Take a basic civics class, for Christ's sake. This whole inconsistent, convoluted conspiracy talk is not even interesting anymore. If you're going to make stuff up, at least be CREATIVE and ACCURATE.

I read it and that's exactly what they say Salazar said. This idiots for the council just can't believe anything because they want to say Baldwin Park is a safe and non corrupt town and we know that is the farthest thing from the truth. Hey what about the 2 shootings again this week I wonder when is Hadsell going this is inept police chief has allowed the gangs to grow and the shootings to go off the charts. I wonder is it going to take a council members family member to get shot before they do something. Wake up you idiots.

Baldwin Park officials have completely ignored the cities gang problems and have focused their entire attention on checkpoints.

Their only concern was the revenue. Did they get rich. No just the tow company got rich. Now the gang problem might be of such that we need the sheriffs to slow down the shootings and the killings. But what do you expect from a city with almost 17% unemployment because the city officials enacted 1290 and run business out of town. Businesses go and jobs go to. then crime goes up. All that was accomplished was unlicensed drivers taken off the streets until the following Thursday police auction. Where Royal Coaches put the unlicensed drivers right back behind the wheel.

Baldwin Park city officials are a disgrace.

Chief Hadsell resign so we can have some effective law enforcement.

My apologies. Although the website is so crappy, it's nearly impossible to navigate to get to the article you're talking about, the main page for American Towman clearly demonstrates that this organization is all about great journalism and the pursuit of truth./end sarcasm
