Rent the TV movie "Human Trafficking" and check out some links below... educate yourself before you get critical of "wasting taxpayer money on this". I, for one, am glad to pay taxes to help bust up sex rings. If you go to a prostitute, you can be sure that there's a good chance she's been forced into it, and/or is a underage, and if she's neither of those, she probably has a past that painfully led her to this. Anyway, please take a few minutes to read the info on links below:

Legalize it and you take the criminals out of it. It is through its prohibition that you keep it in the dark and under the thumb of criminal elements. |
|
|
Is that what you call a happy ending?

Legalizing won't stop the travesty of human trafficking. These women didn't choose to go into prostitution. They were tricked. It doesn't matter if it was legal, though, because the supply of women from impovershed countries is cheap and easy for them to maintain. Legalizing prostitution does nothing but increase the demand for the sex industry. |

stop wasting time, money and resources on this very low level crime! get tough on drugs, rape, assult, robbery, etc.

If women are being exploited, which they are, this is a very important crime. The pimps and madams exploit these women and sell them out and they take the money from them |

While our Men are dying oversees, this is the easy way out back home. CATCH REAL CRIMINALS! |

Yes, because we all know Osama Bin Laden is hiding out behind a dumpster on First and Leffingwell. Why just last week, I saw two Al Qaida leaders getting gas at the Chevron on Whittier and Colima! |

It's often FORCED SEXUAL SLAVERY. Hundreds of thousands of women and CHILDREN (meaning as young as toddler age) are tricked, kidnapped, forced into prostitution. Do you understand this?? Are you listening?! HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS trafficked within our country, across city and state lines, some from the U.S., and some brought here from Mexico and overseas by CRIMINALS who keep them captive in horrible conditions. So, if you seek sexual services, you can never really be sure if the person "servicing" you is doing it of his/her own free will, or if he/she has been forced, and is being forced to work for the profit of another. She may have been kidnapped, may have been tricked with the promise of a real job... you just don't know. I personally have met a woman, white american woman in the midwest, whose parents began selling her to men in bars when she was about 5 years old. Starting when she was 5, she was raped by GROWN MEN on a regular basis. Her life was threatened -- she was told that if she tried to get away, they'd kill her. She finally managed to escape when she was about 18, and still knows other friends who have been in the same situation, and who are regularly rotated around through different cities, held captive, and forced to let men have sex with/rape them for another's profit. It happens right here in our communities, and the men who seek those "services" are who keep this going. Criminals are loving your support! So, PLEASE, stop this talk about "real crimes". This IS a real crime and one of the biggest tragedies of our time. And, agree with another post-- legalizing won't solve this. Holland has legal prostitution, but it has been overrun by Russian mafia for years, and so the same situation of forced prostitution exists there, where it IS legal.

Somehow I don't think a 45 or 50 year old Korean woman giving someone a "happy ending" is, in any way, shape or form related to some 5 year old sex slave story you heard about. No one - except maybe a hundred dollar bill - is keeping these women in this line of business against their will. |

Odd, You don't hear about the brothels in Nevada being raided for slavery. For some reason, when the women involved have to be licensed and medically tested, organized crime does not bring in slave labor.
When the act is not criminal, those performing it generally are not criminals. There isn't enough profit margin. For a historical account where making something legal reduced crime, check out the repeal of the 19th amendment. It caused the greatest amount of harm to organized crime of any single government action. |

A few random thoughts.
I don't understand this. If someone is so concerned about the trafficking issue, then why are they busting the person who is being trafficked? Don't give me the line that the authorities want her to help them catch the "real" criminal. She gets busted, period. The "crime", two adults having sex, is the only "crime" that I can think of, where the "crime" activity takes place maybe millions of times a day and it is considered normal. But when money is associated with it, now all of sudden that same exact activity is criminal. Huh? Sounds like nothing more than an IRS issue to me. The "crime" only involves these two people and both of them consent to the activity. So we have a crime, where there seems to be no victim and their mutual activity is a normal activity. On the other hand, if the women is being forced to perform sexual actions, then the person forcing her is guilty of some crime (kidnapping or trafficking or something that isn't good) but she certainly isn't (or shouldn't be) and neither is the guy or gal paying her. Now when you have undercover agents looking for people who offer happy endings, that seems a little on the moralistic side and I think it is a total waste of money. To me, that is just pure moral arrogance. That guy looks down on this girl for what she is doing, yet when he goes home he hopes his wife or girlfriend does the same thing. Interesting topic, I think I'll look into it more. |
