Were there armed missle silos in the hills south of Rowland Heights? Are they still there? Are they active?

.......... not Rowland Heights but of all places in the hills above Rio Hondo College. Theres a fire road that starts from the Rio Hondo Police Academy called Nike Hill. You take it all the way up by the radio towers. There is a plaque up there that tells of the cold war and the missile battery stationed at that spot during the cold war. Its a good hike to the top. The missile battery was taken down in the late eighties.

Yes. It was designated as 'L.A. 29 Missle Defense Base" and is locared in the hills between Rowland Hts. and Brea.. Its remains can be found by going east on Vanrage all the way to the end if the street, and hiking about a quarter mile into the hill. There is a gate that may or may not be there now. You' ll see some cement slabs and an old wooden guard shack. The silosare covered with cement as well. More info can be found at LA missle base 29.com . on the net. It is an interesting place to see.
