I will never understand when families are struggling and the economy is so bad, the residents of La Mirada voted to increase sales tax.
Would someone explain that to me.
Every one I know shops in La Habra or other parts of Orange County because of the tax rate.
Why would anyone open a retail store in La Mirada now. I hope Walgreen's does well but just a few blocks away the residents of La Mirada can save by shopping in another city.
People just vote all of the time and never take the time to think about the end result. Drives me crazy.

we all shop in LH and OC because the shopping choices in La Mirada are crap and the city leaders discourage the small local business owner. the new tax is just yet another reason :(

The city leaders watch too many reruns of Mayberry RFD. Unfortunately, it was the favorite show of the senior citizen voting block they target. Pathetic. Just a bang up job by Travis, Robinson, Malkin, Rew, Peters, Chotiner, Garcia, etc. to set the standard of pompous egos over outcomes.

If you think the sales tax is bad now, wait until the crazy wingnuts of the right wing get their flat tax passed because "boo hoo poor people aren't paying their share."

Details?? Right wingers are known for being against taxes. But if there are gonna be taxes AT ALL, they should be an equal percentage or not at all. Preferably, not at all.

Thats what one would think, yet look at their actions. Conservatives cry and throw little hissy fits on a regular basis about poor people getting a break on federal income taxes.
(the poor still have to pay all of the other local and state taxes, which right wing news outlets tend to omit in their reports).
