"We continue to fully support out mayor." Wow. It's not the police's job to support the mayor, it's their job to investigate him.
It's amazing how charges never get filed once it's realized a public officials is the target of an investigation. Remember Sergio Corona in Baldwin Park?
One hand washes the other, I guess.
Since El Monte police have made their warm and fuzzy feelings about the mayor so clear and so public, perhaps they're not the appropriate agency to be looking into this matter.

Well of course, the da isnt going to file charges. This type of shit goes on all the time with these city officials, they are pardoned of everything short of murder. I wonder if he will go through what every other californian arrested of a domestic violence crime has to, classes, fines etc etc. Chief you shouldve bitten your toungue, supporting the mayor is a bit of a conflict of interest, dont you think, LOSERS.....LASD should investigate and prosecute this so called City Official, and im sure like most domestic incidents he will go home and cry to his wife and tell her how he is or will be ruined and she will feel sorry for him and recant her story of what really happened. How suspicious!!!!!!1

With the kind of money Chief Weldon is going to retire $ 230,000.00 a year and all approved by the Mayor and also he appointed him in 2001 against the will of the people because he was the least qualified wih no High School diploma and also never made it to be Sergent, but he ran the campains for them and now you see why the chief is supporting our Mayor....

If he was arrested, how come his name and information is not in the LA County booking system? Sounds suspicious to me that he was "detained for most of the day". Was he actually "arrested"? Maybe this is a good question for the reporters to follow up on because I'm curious.

Come on Ken, what are you doing? Isn't it about time we get Ernie out of Office. He's become a embrassement to the whole County and to us.It's time that he takes care of his personal problems and leaves the City out of it.This needs to be investigated by The L.A.S.O and not his private City puppets. The rest of the City Council better speak up or it's going to get ugly in our Council meetings. Get rid of this Guy once and for all!

Here we go again...Domestic violence, hummm. What kind of example does this show the community? DV must be okay if the Mayor of El Monte gets off. This dude was probably drunk and he got out of hand with his Sancha. I had a hunch this dude doesn't respect women since he is running around with a Sancha and still claims he is married for so many years. He is your perfect mexican Macho Man. I hope the people of El Monte find a way to recall him since elected officials should be held to a higher standard and this mayor is not a person who has any standards to begin with.

I wonder what will happen in Baldwin Park next???

Does this mean that on the Tribune Blog, stories about Ernie move from "Leftovers at City Hall" to "Crime Scene"?

Should we citizens be concerned that instead of investigating an alleged crime the "highly paid" El Monte Police Dept is "continuing to fully support" the mayor? DA's office, please get someone in here to investigate. Make sure that they have nothing to gain or lose from a complete investigation. Is this what happened when the mayor was in vehicle accidents?

Come on we all know our mayor is a drunk he has even shown up at CHURCH events drunk. He has gotten into fights at the Moose Lodge in El Monte with his wife and girlfriend(the same night). He even paved his Olga's driveway with city money. As for Kenny he should even be th epolice chief didnt he retire already...oh yeah he came out of retirement....We need to get new blood in the office to clean up all this BS

I hate that fat a** mayor. Im a life long resident of El monte, and I've seen this city go down the drain since Ernie became Mayor. Ken Weldon is a piece of shit too. They're hipocrites at it's best.
(F.y.i... Did you guys know that Ken Weldon's daughter is married to a guy from the EL Monte Flores Gang, and she's a reputed Tweeker....)
WE need to get this fat boy out of office, and it's about time our voice gets heard.

Another wonderful story from our friends in El Monte. The mayor is cheating on his wife, and beating on his girlfriend. A real tough hombre. Hopefully he has no children to raise as gangbangers. El Monte has enough of those cowards already.

I am not surprised one bit at this. Ernie Guiterrez has been seen under the influence several times in the past. El Monte needs to clean up their city council.. They are an embarassment to the community.

The comments are a better read than the anemic story in the paper about this guy.

There are a lot of questions this article raises and information between the lines we aren't provided with by our "representatives." As to what statistically goes hand in hand with domestic violence, was there alcohol involved? And if so, was that why he was detained for so long; so that he could sober up? Statistically, domestic violence occurs within a family. If his wife was not aware of his arrest, was it his mistress or a stranger involved in the issue? If it was a stranger, I would think the allegations would fall in the realm of assault, not domestic violence. So which of these guys does Mr. Gutierrez want to be? The job of civil service employees and elected officials is to represent their community. The behavior of this man and the lack of action on the part of the District Attorney, City Council and the Police Dept. are shamefull and unfortunate representations of the political favors and policies that are being upheld by El Monte officials. It appears that change and reform are not only needed at the federal level, but at the municipal level as well.

I believe that our private lives are our private lives as a tax paying citizen in this city, but when you beome a public official such as a Mayor you are in the public eye whether you like it or not. You represent us the citizens of this city so your behavior is expected to be proper and professional. Mr. Gutierrez has not lived up to those expectations. Where is his integrity?

wake up people, what happen to Innocent until proven guilty. Also if you could read and could comprehend, the El Monte Police Department were the one's who arrested him. If they wanted to cover it up they would not of arrested him. The DA's Office, not the police determined at this time there is not enough evidence to file the case. Use common sense and wait to hear the complete story. Hold people accountable but don't point your finger until the facts are heard. Don't be part of the problem, be the few individuals of our community that do things the right and respectful way.
