<quoted text> As far as the hunger srikes they are pretty lame. However the inmates know the havoc they cause and that is why they do it. Could you imagine having to do daily wt checks, b/p and paperwork on a couple of hundred guys because they are on lock down. And we havet o do this because of protocol, probably steming from some lawsuit. The inmates know we are unable to do this and they take advantage of it. When you have just one guy on a hunger strike it's pretty easy, we just wait until they become weak enough and we treat them then. We cannot force them to eat until they cannot eat for themselves.
Hunger strikes??? OMG In years of doing time I
didn't see one person go on a hunger strike.

There is no such thing as an OG anymore. Gang members life span is so short they are lucky if they see thier 30s. I work in a prison and these guys doing life walk around conducting business from the inside. They run the prison like they run the streets. Some shot caller tells them what to do and they do it. Many a mornin you hear them out there exercisin just because some shot caller said so. They have the same F-uped menatlity as they did on the outside.

"Mexican immigrant assimilation low," by Dan Walters, 5/14/08

"Although it deals with national data and trends rather than those specific to California, a new study of immigrant assimilation is directly pertinent to the state, which has, by far, the nation’s largest immigrant population.

The study by the conservative Manhattan Institute for Policy Research is based on what it says is the first-ever effort to create an “assimilation index” that can be applied to immigrants from specific countries, with specific status and living in specific communities.

Applying that index and using Census Bureau data, the study found that immigrants from Mexico, the largest immigrant population, are the least likely to have assimilated, followed by those from El Salvador, China and India. In a cultural assimilation subcategory, immigrants from China and India trail Mexicans.

Another finding was that New York City has one of the nation’s highest immigrant assimilation rates while Los Angeles has one of the lowest."

In the year I have been at work I have seen 2 individual hunger strikes and a gym of 120 guys at the time go on a hunger strike. Why do you always want to make me seem like a liar. Like I told you before I only refer to the prison I work at not the ones you have been in.

i think 'oneways' is aptly named. This bozo only can see things ONE way, and that appears to be his/her way.'oneways' must have had a horrible experience, but, on the other hand, is prison SUPPOSED to be a day at the spa????

Good one. We are there to provide basi care needs, if they get sick it is up to the doctor to determine if they go to a hospital or not. We provide chronic care medication. Mostly high bood pressure meds and medication for mental illness. You know if they are on medication for mental illness they usually get put on disability when they get out. Many who are in and out as mich as he has been know how to work the system. Those who work the system make it hard for those who really need help. I have guys on my line 2-3 times a week for medicaiton they can purchase a the cateen. If they bought them then we wouldn't have to see so many and we would be able to provide better care for others.

Two "individual" means 2 persons right? And in
another post you said... can you imagine taking
blood pressure on 200 inmates in cells locked
down during a hunger strike?

People in "the gym" are not in cells RN.Keep dancing with your stories though.Btw, how long
did this so called hunger strike in the gym last?
One last question,is this prison in California?
I'm not asking for the name, just the state.

Here you go again trying to make it seem like I am lying. When I said 2 individual hunger strikes I meant it to say 2 different individuals went on hunger strikes. As far as the gym we usually have about 200 hundred guys in there. I did say in my statement that at the time we only had 120. This was my exact quote "Could you imagine having to do daily wt checks, b/p and paperwork on a couple of hundred guys because they are on lock down." I never said I did it and I never said cells. You know that even the guys in the gym go on lock down. But yes maybe saying 200 was wrong but I was going by the number I have in the gym know. The strike didn't go long the inmates got what they needed. And notice I say needed because what they were asking for was not wrong. But you know that this happens maybe not where you have been but it does. And if goes more than 24 hours there is alot of paper work and protocol we have to follow and it causes havoc. And by the way what they needed was not medical. And how about sitdowns. It may not effect medical but imates do have sitdowns. These guys had been on lock down for awhile due to racial tension. Meanwhile there were necessaties that were not quite being met. So they decided to go on a hunger strike to either get out of lockdown or have thier needs met. Thier needs were met and the lockdown continued. The inmates were not completely happy being that they were still on lockdown, but the outcome was O.K with them. I guess it's better than a riot. Of which we also have had.

And pease don't resort back name calling. Curious is just curious and she has her opinions. Maybe if you stopped name calling you might get her on your side. As a matter of fact there has been a couple of times where she has said maybe you have had bad experiences. Be open minded yourself. Don't think everybody is out to get you bcause you have a criminal history. Like I said before I do not disrespect the guys on my yard, and I have not disrespected you the way you have disrespected me. So call me a liar all you want I know how I run my yard medcially, and it's quite effective.

good gosh, this dude is a piece of work. He is so busy accusing you of being a liar and me of kissing your butt that he hasn't read a thing other than what he wants to read. He is a very bitter soul.

So, back to the actual topic...are the LA jails still in lockdown??

It's on and off. There is alot of racial tension right now. Especially with the F-13 gang and the blacks going at it. Street violence always spills into th prisons. Oh and by the way he does seem to read what he wants into it. The thing is we have never said he as lying. I mean I could only say what happens at the prison i work at.

One of the first and original gangs out here in LA. There are so many however it is hard to keep track. Right know however the ones to watch for are the MS-13. Speading like wildfire throughout the USA not just California. These guys however are mostly from El Salvador. They are one of the most vicious gangs out there. These to however stem from illegal immigration. You could Google them and see what they have been up to and how they got started.

Hey state RN,you might be interested in this...
Kinda disagrees with what you have been saying
about the wonderful healthcare in prison.

"Federal courts are enforcing a judge's order to build seven new facilities to treat prisoners after years of neglect to inmate health care in California."

"California's 33 state prisons were designed to hold about 100,000 inmates. They now hold roughly 170,000, and the overcrowding has been blamed for creating a volatile environment, and contributing to poor inmate health care and mental health services."
