First of all you have to realize in Los Angeles everybody loves to ride in their own vehicle without the aide of public transportation,(hence some of the worst trafffic in the world!) So if you ride in buses then yes your correct maybe there's something to benefit, but as far as everything else, this project more so than anything caters to the more wealthier minority.... Plus there's alot of money to be made for the private corporations that will be running the tolls.... so your opinion isn't all that convincing.

"Drivers may for the first time actually consider carpooling when the lanes run consistently at 45 mph like they are supposed to."

...?!?!WTF?!?!? i sure hope your not talking about a freeway....

Have any of you actually READ the proposal? I'm not talking about the bits and pieces you get from the media. An extra lane will be added to the 10 freeway (more capacity), more busses will be purchased to improve service in the corridor, El Monte and Union Station will be improved to better handle bus commuters, carpoolers can still use the lanes for free under the same terms that are in place now, and toll revenues are used to improve transit service in the toll corridors. Please read the actual project proposal instead of venting in ignorance. How many of you ride transit in the corridors along the 10 and 210? The actual riders of transit in the SGV will see a positive difference with this proposal. Drivers may for the first time actually consider carpooling when the lanes run consistently at 45 mph like they are supposed to - maybe some drivers may even hop on the new bus service in the improved corridors? We will not remove cars from the roads by doing the same things that we are doing now, getting people to carpool is the most effective way financially to reduce traffic. What if you are a single driver and need to get home early? Right now you have no choice - these toll lanes will give you the ability to choose a faster route home and contribute to better transit service in the SGV at the same time. What I pick up from this thread is a group of people who dismiss a proposal without even reading it. I ride transit by choice, and sometimes drive to work solo also, this program will give me more choices and improve service in the SGV.

Let's be honest - a toll is a tax! "Toll" is just another word for Tax.

The real transportation problem we face today is in the area of accountability by elected spenders who have mismanaged our transportation tax dollars for many years. Our transportation policies are in big need of reform. Unfortunately, reform can only occur when our elected leaders focus on real solutions instead of new tax revenue streams. Please think about the following transportation facts when you pay that toll:

TOLLS CREATE GRIDLOCK!
TOLLS LIMIT ACCESS TO EXPRESSWAYS,
THUS CREATING MORE GRIDLOCK!
LIMITED ACCESS MEANS MORE
CONGESTION/GRIDLOCK ON SECONDARY ROADS.
TOLLS ARE A DOUBLE TAXATION

do you mean Orwellian? Cameras are more about forcing existing laws (which some may argue are Draconian)

yeah, having some creepy person (not that you're creepy) following me around would be weird.. but that's stalking. But, if I were walking around Old Town Pas knowing that there were cameras over every inch of that place, I wouldn't feel weird at all. I'd feel a little safer, though.

typo: "forcing" == "enforcing"

btw: I'm curious. Why do you think I am a Jesus fearing Christian?(and, don't read anything into my proper capitalization as any indication of my beliefs)

But how will the illegal aliens be able to afford to drive into Downtown LA to work at the sweatshops to make my shoes and underwear?

I guess we better get ready for more taxes to pay for more buses...

I ask HAVE YOU READ THE PROPOSAL?

1> An extra lane will be added to the 10 freeway - This means that business will be removed and homes as well. No real plans have been made to add a new lane.
2> more buses will be purchased - Metro does not purchase buses it lease's them, so they will use the money else where.
3> El Monte and Union Station will be improved to better handle bus commuters - This is something that was proposed using the NEW SALES TAX MONEY and now they want to shift that to the new toll money.... HMMMM.
4> Drivers may for the first time actually consider carpooling when the lanes run consistently at 45 mph like they are supposed to - Of course they will because the people can not afford to use the toll lanes. They claim that the toll road will not be charged for carpoolers but in the same line they say they might charge them???
5> maybe some drivers may even hop on the new bus service in the improved corridors - Then all you have to do is hope that they do not just drive right by you, then your late for work..
So please read the proposal and do some home work.

Actually you haven't paid for them. Transpo and fuel taxes don't even cover the costs of roads they are heavily subsidized by the state and feds. You sir are freeloader.

Why stop at just making the carpool lanes into toll lanes? Do it right: turn the entire freeway system into tollways. Charge exorbitant prices to drive on them, and nobody will use them. When nobody will use them, then turn the abandoned system into a linear swap meet. Admission will be free, just bring your old battered van, awning and folding tables.

It won't do anything to speed up traffic during the commute rush hour, in fact it may make it worse. The bottlenecks occur where the carpool lanes merge with the regular lanes. They need more lanes and the east-west portion of the 2 freeway should be completed through Hollywood and Beverly Hills as originally planed. 4 more lanes need to be added on the 405 all the way from LAX through the Newhall pass to Castaic as well as the 14 to Lancaster. 4 additional lanes on the 60, 91 and 10 to the Inland Empire. At the same time they should provide high speed commuter rail with low cost fares to reduce freeway traffic. With the lower gas prices we're going to see massive traffic problems.

When one clearly know nothing but MTA spin, and one believes that you are dealing with anything but a Blagoevich mentality with its leadership, then you will probably believe anything. This was a scam to provide dollars for politicians who are facing re-election quick cash to pay of the MTA Unions to avoid a strike.

The lunatic fringe toll the carpool lane proposal comes from privatization extremists in the Bush Administration and was though up by the lunatic fringe right wing "Reason" Foundation "think tank". It will not create any real capacity. This was a scheme thought up by the proponents to fool the public by tolling "one lane at a time" until we all get used to being f@@ked, then do it to the rest.

I propose we raise the price of gasoline to $10/gallon through additional taxes and that will solve the traffic problems once and for all. The additional revenue can be shared among the Federal, state, and local governments, thereby reducing deficits in said entities. We will call this a sin tax for those who insist on driving alone.

Once again, I would like to thank you for your vote of confidence. Hope is alive and well.

They really messed up the 10 East carpool lane inthe last week. They just moved an entrance that was just before the 710 freeway to after the 710 and now they got way more traffic on it merging at Atlantic. At 2:30 on a Tuesday afternoon I was stopped where that entrance was. Doing that increased traffic by putting 710 north traffic eligible to go in carpool lane where they couldnt before. All MTA did was create more traffic so they are justfied in doing this Toll Lane thingy.

Where is this money going?-it may not even go to Los Angeles. Remember the freeways were paid for in the 50's.

Stupid, stupid sheeple. When did we have a vote to put these in again? Call your representative at least to see what they say since the mainstream media refuses to.
