Metal railing on a bridge. Yeah, not very likely to keep a vehicle from going over the edge. Especially when it had been welded over and over and is rusted. How about CalTrans, city of Long Beach, the port, whoever this bridge belongs to install better safety barricades.

Don't know the cause yet, but I don't think it has anything to do with the condition of the guard rail. It's pretty difficult to drive off a bridge.

Headline reads"woman in critical condition" If she was in the water for 20 minutes I don't think she would be alive. Plus on tv, the news showed a body being pulled up. The guys in the boat did not appear to give any type of CPR. Poor lady. RIP

Steve,
you are right, the divers pulled out the body and the body was placed on the boat and covered with the plastic head to toe, then the diver dove back in the water, I honestly tought she was dead. Then 5 minutes later two fire fighters aproach the boat and still no cpr seen, how did she survive? I believe the divers where taking there time to before diving in the water, not blaming them, but the news chopper even said, i guess at this point it's a recovery, being how long the body was in the water,

I agree. I drive over this bridge at least once a week and the condition of the metal railing leaves much to be desired in terms of safety. It is less than 3 feet tall and there are several gaps, and broken posts. Last year, there was even a piece of plywood and road cones covering a large gap.
That said, if a car is going fast enough, I don't know what kind of fence could prevent a car from going over and into the water.

Why do they not comment on the fact the Fire Dept. screwed up and thought the woman was dead? They pulled her from the water, put her on the rescue boat, and covered her in a tarp and did not work on her. Then went back to seeing if anyone else was in the car....

Screwed up? If not for the fire dept she would still be laying 15 ft under right now.

I will pray for Lizeth Pimentel's full recovery. My prayers are also for you and the family and the child that the car seat was intended for.

Face it, the driver (Lizeth Pimentel) screwed up, was probably yaking on her cellphone and lost control of her SUV. She was just not paying attention to the road.

And besides, we're 23 and driving a large SUV? Why?

This connects to me because I always take the 710 North to work. I asked a cop what was going on about 825am, and they said that a car went over the bridge and the helicopters were pulling out bodies.

I can't see how she could have possibly went over, unless she was driving out of control. I drive over this bridge every single day! There is no way unless you are not paying attention and talking on the phone.

From other reports, it was an accident with other cars. Hmmm...

What an assinine comment "GodRules." If you think "God" rules, God would show some compassion for a human creation during this horrible ordeal. You must be a GOP which is exactly what one of you idiots would say. Such an ignorant breeder.

Take your d*mn God and shove it up your you know what! Hypocrite!
