I want to thank the California State Commander and Staff for closing our post. AMVETS Post 113 has been in operation over 50 yrs. serving our communities with activities and events to support our local veterans and community. The efforts of the State Commander and his vision for our post has been selfish and loss. During the holidays while we were closed because of his SUSPENSION thieves broke in and stole toys which we were going to giveaway at Children's Christmas Party. We recovered the event by members donations and personal funds. Because of their TEAM AMVETS nothing has been in our favor. Would you want to be a part of this "TEAM AMVETS" ? Now we are members at large. These are life time members which are over 590 approx. I recommend not joining this Veterans Organization.( would appreciate posting this remark in newspaper yours truly Gilbert Becerril Chaplin 25 years lifetime member)

I am very sadden by what has happened to the Irwindale Post 113. This was a place where veterans hung out and felt at home. Some didn't have any families just meeting friends and reuniting. For some people they needed a place to talk to their own kind (being combat veterans). That's what at this location gave to Veterans. They provided lots of services for the Veterans and community. I use to go to their dances on Sunday, very lively atmosphere a good feeling to be amongst friends and people you see every week. It's ashamed that the Department of AMVETS State Commander revoked their charter after all these, 50 years this post, had been in operation an asset to the community of Irwindale and the surrounding cities. What kind of an organization is this? That does this to their own Veteran members. I'm mentioning to my family members that are Veterans not to join AMVETS.

My comments echo what the Chaplain and Alicia wrote. Additionally, I would like to point out that the beautiful Veterans Memorial will now be in the dark, flags flying without a light shining on them. They have already been vandalized, it will increase now. On special days of remembrance like Veteran's Day and Memorial Day the honored place where local veterans came with their families to pay their respects will be empty, lonely and forgotten. When a member loses a spouse there will be no more receptions for the family to honor the loved one and share the grief. And what of our State Honor Guard? These men have been attending funerals, several a week using their own vehicles and resources. Where is the dignity and support for these wonderful men as they give a final farewell to those who have served our country so valiantly? There are many reasons to keep Post 113 open. Does the commun ity know that members of the Post and the Ladies Auxiliary make weekly visits to the USO, volunteering their time to meet the weary, homesick veterans and provide services to them?? Does the community know that members visit our veterans in local hospitals monthly and bring them cheer? Let them know that they are not forgotten? With the high suicide rate among vets, there is one less place for despondent men and women to talk to someone who understands, another vet, a Chaplain, somewhere to get information, resources, a handshake from a "brother" ... Much more, but those are my thoughts for now...

To you at this post maybe if you didn't outcast anyone that didn't go along with your antics all of this could still be happening. I along with you thank the state commander for stopping this travesty from continuing. I also feel this veterans organization AMVETS is well worth joining. As to the burglary I would look at all current officers of the post as suspects.since they do and did have access as well as the article said knowledge of where, how, and when to do it.

Who this real vet? What don't you reveal your name if what you are saying is the truth. Or are you a coward? Real combat vets help each other. Jealousy is the reason why your comments are projected. Anger and hate, if you didn't 't like the way the post was run or if you didn't 't like the people you should have gone somewhere else.
The last appointed commander only got 11 votes because the membership didn't like the direction he was going. A motorcycle person in charge is not good leadership.
As far as the AMVETS, are very one sided. Don't be a coward, real vet?

I AGREE WITH REAL VET. KEEP RECORDS LIKE YOU ARE REQUIRED TO. BE TRANSPARENT LIKE YOU SHOULD BE. AND IT DEFINITELY SOUNDS LIKE AN INSIDE JOB PERPETRATED BY THE LEADERSHIP THAT WAS BEEN RIPPING OFF THE VETS.

Okay "I am a Vet", if there were errors on record keeping than why weren't records of previous commander not turned in? Humm looks like person is perpetrating and had ripped off the vets without trace of a rip off. The previous overseer of bar was told to step down and instead he was ripping the Vets off without a trace. That is a loyal AMVET, Is that what real Vets do? The combat vets done do that to each other.( obviously you must not be combat vet)

So you are saying that there is no crooked vets. give us a break. You like so many vets go to these places and get drunk. Deal with it . the state closed down your bar because poor accountability. poor records keeping and missing money. So I say there is crooked combat vets and they are running post 113.

Okay "I am combat vet" I have not taken a drink of alcohol for many years, I seen the last commander get stumbling drunk and lose focus of his position. So I agree there are crooked vets because of this past commander. As far as to the stolen money all has been accounted except for the last commander hasn't turn in his portion of expenses and yes in the past there has been accounting errors but none of the funds have been taken so get your information in order before you start spitting your
vendom.

It is a sad state of affairs when veterans go against one another.Had this happened in battle none of you would be here anyway.I am not a vet, but come from a family of them.My father served in WW11 in the Po Valley and African campains, receiving 3 bronze stars.Talk about honor! It is pitiful what measures a disgruntled few will go to trying to distroy Post 113.Vengance is not yours, but the Lords.A serious accident was not enough of a wakeup call.Com munication and forgivness is a key here.Vets stick together to the end....atleast that is what I was raised to believe!

3 Previous Commanders. What part of suspension don't you understand? But no, you'll hire an attorney to do your dirty work. Reopening the post for your own enjoyment, having parties without permission, then the post gets robbed twice. Where's all the money you make on Sunday dances? No video cameras? What a joke! Inside job? Oh ya! Like Mr. Torres said, they knew where everything was, keys, alarms. The state should fire all veterans responsible for this travesty.
