Worth mentioning is the death of Javier Quezada Jr. in the parking lot of Las Encinas Hospital in 2003. The hospital’s staff responded to his father’s request for assistance by calling the PPD. Was there an investigation into the hospital’s protocol when dealing with mentally ill patients?

The Langham Hotel,(formerly the Ritz Carlton) better service and a whole lot cheaper.

Las Encinas saved my husband's life. Their doctors are angels. They work with the most troubled people, and things can go wrong. I am not saying that there was not great fault there, but they have done incredible work, too. Our family was saved thanks to their work. (But NOT the grandstander Dr. Drew.)

I worked there many years ago and knew Dr. Drew very well. I can attest to the fact that he is a dedicated and caring man but this issue here is not really about him. It's about the state of healthcare in general in our country. When for-profit hospital corporations like Aurora (it was HCA when I was there) are focused on just turning profits in the face of ever decreasing reinbursment from managed care, they cut corners. Patient care suffers. Units are often understaffed and the level of competence of those they can afford to hire is often lacking. Deaths and drug use happened when I was there as well. Administration will investigate and tell state regulators and JCAHO what they want to hear and then go back to business as usual. In the end it is the patient and their family that suffers from this dysfunctional system of care.

This hospital is nothing more than a country club.
Unless you are there every day making sure the patient is being cared for, all that's being done for you is draining your bank account. On 2 separate stays I had to fight everyday for my daughter. They had her more doped up while being a patient than she was outside of the hospital. I'd find her in her room sleeping when I'd get there. She'd missed her sessions etc. and no one asked where she was. While on 72 hr hold for cutting they put her in a regular room with a hosptal worker that they dismissed within 6 hrs. After which my daughter walked up to the nurses window and asked and received a razor to 'shave her legs' only to cut again. That's only two of the issues I had to deal with. It's time the truth about Las Encinas becomes public. Their reputation is all hype. Pinsky is a joke... Notice the man who knows everything now knows nothing!

That's shocking. I was a patient there for one night, and a family member was a patient there, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. It'was not run very well, that's for sure. But this is truly horrible. Talk about negligence and cruelty.

There were also 2 deaths in 2004. One patient died from being kept in leg restraints for 2 days in stead of 3 hours, and the other drowned himself in a bathtub. This is totally outrageous. That place should be closed down.

That's pretty shocking, to happen at a place that's so expensive, and a smaller hospital.

Wow, I’m in shock to see how many former employees have great comments about the hosp. They are right Dr. Drew is great. I worked with him for several years. I moved on only because I had to move out of state. I think the organization needs to take a better look at there administrations. All great employees start with HR. Dept. if they have great people skills so will your employees. I hear that both HR. Dept heads are full of shit. The one in Las Encinas is stupid doesn’t now her head from her ass!! The one at Charter is a Racist Bitch. She thinks her shit doesn’t stink. She is as stupid as her staff. Her staff is rude and racist. How they got her there is beyond me. If you ever take at the Dir. She is 55 going on 25. She dresses like some hot 25yrs. While roles of FAT are popping out shirt and ass. Yuck cover that shit up!!! I would say they are coming out of her blouse but has NO boobs. Her staff on the hand is huge as hell she pops out of every thing! She is all so very Rude Bitch!! They have some other lady in there she was new. She dresses very sharp and very polite. I don't know much about her, all staff says she is very approachable and down to earth. They say she dresses very nice better than HR Dir. I feel sorry for the workers at Charter!! Now Linda Parks my not now much but she doesn’t dress like a want to street walker like that other lady!! I wonder is the HR. Dir.@ Charter owns a mirror! They are both great hosp. there goals are to help patient and there loved ones. They just need better Administration!!!!!

Linda Parks leadership style is demeaning and outright dicatorial. She also likes to share her personal drama in her life and make others suffer for it. If you demonstrate competence and gain respect from physicians she calls you into the office behind a closed door and makes it very clear how you have embarrassed her. Whe can be threatening, intimidating and as another poster put it she is the Hitler of leadership in California. I hired the best qualified staff and they would leave because of the way she treated them. As a Director of Nursing at BHC Alhambra she never rounded on the units or developed relationships with her staff. She could not recall names of nurses who worked their for over two years. She also dressed like a hooker with her skirts above her knees and the pediatric patients were refer to her as the flying monkey from the Wizard of Oz. Many nurses at BHC Alhambra left because of her power plays and dicatorial style of leadership. I am sure this style of leadership has turned the staff at Las Encinas upside down and she taken no shared governance approach to help improve profitability, patient safety, staff develpment and evidenced based practice. These are the qualities required of leaders today. The buck stops with the top dog - not the physicians. Leadership in healthcare is responsible for all services- ancillary, pharmacy, nursing, and medical staff. The community must demand accountabilty for actions in this situation. With Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals and basic community pracitce standards in place today this is something you would expect to see in 1960 not 2008. Linda definitely needs to explain her approach to how she leads others and inspires others to deliver high quality safe patient care - not just to increase profit margins.

I was also an employee of BHC Alhambra and I am in complete agreement with your assessment of Ms. Parks. She is a completely hands off administrator, lacking in minimal leadership skills and expects all those around her to assume all responsibility and accountability for all negative situations that may arise. Ms. Parks does not have the academic qualifications, nor the basic common sense and good judgement that is required of good leadership. I am horrified about the events that have transpired, but I am not surprised that the facility is suffering her guidance.

Linda Parks is the most power hungry person I have ever met! She demands respect without giving any! She just comments, "You don't talk like that to me like that, I am the CEO. I was informed the intake staff was directed not to send patients out for medical clearance because of fear of them being routed to another hospital once they are sent out. Hmmm, that might explain some of the negligence at the hospital. Keep in mind Las Encinas does not have a medical component. Sigh! When I worked there last year, within a week of her getting there, she downsized. Very little supervision on the units....Come on Blair, you can do better than this! This was a horrible choice! Hopefully it is not too late for the hospital...So get rid of her! Linda Parks you suck!

My experience at Las Encinas became so horrible and the staff so incompetent I began to write a book and film about it-not much has changed in the 50 years since Cuckoo's Nest (book) was written and Linda Parks and Nurse Ratchid have much in common. Originally, the story was a fate driven love story between myself and a girl I met while in hospital, but after I started writing both the girl and I came to be criminally harrassed and stalked by an acquaintance of a disgraced nurse (the one that last fall attempted to sue Las Encinas for poor working conditions, among other things, when she herself was a HUGE part of the problem and may have indeed been the nurse on duty the night a 14 year old girl was raped by another patient when she slept right through it. Her friends continue to harass and stalk the girl and myself:

www.myspace.com/370392338

One of her friends is a psychotic drug addict whose license to practice psychology was rescinded by the State of California following an arrest for driving under the influence of crystal meth wearing ladies underwear and it just never stops. There are more details of the illegal stalking which is an indirect result of the incompetence of the Las Encinas staff (and Linda Parks) here:

Oh by the way the Las Vegas DA's office came across my reports of Las Encinas including the experiences of how another patient (a woman who contacted me through the MySpace page) was badly neglected and suffered physically because of that-the implication being that one or both of us may be called to testify in a Las Vegas case involving a former patient-I have a feeling this is only the beginning.
