Good!!! Get those drunks and vehicle law offenders. These checkpoints in no way target a specific race of people. They only target lawbreakers. The only reason Latinos are up in arms is because they live in such dense populations all over the place.

I hope they will actually IMPOUND (for at LEAST 30 DAYS!) the vehicles of those DUIing, and those that DO NOT have a license! All others should be cited, and let go!

Hopefully they are able to catch a few unlicensed drivers and get them off the streets so we can prevent another baby from getting killed.

Looks like another "tax and screw the poor" money making Friday by law enforcement in LA County. Instead of cutting their budgets like all other state entities, they are continuing to use bogus "dui checkpoints" to trample on the poor, the consitution and people's rights to be free from abuse by police powers. 100 people will be harassed, fined and/or have their vehicles impounded for hefty fees. 0-1 dui cases will be involved in the money making.

ALL cars from check points should have 30 day holds. NO DUI cars should be given back the next day after they sober up. No drivers license-illlegal.....expired tags-illegal.......expired drivers license-illegal, they all get 30 day holds.......add DUI.

pretty ,uch all of arrow highway is off limits between irwindale and the fairplex... grand ave and azusa ave are traps... if you have the balls to call the pd in the area you are going to be in they legally have to tell you the time and locations of any sobriety checkpoints in that area

You know what's funny,I go through many of these checkpoints and I'm not harrashed, nor are my rights trampled on and my vehicle is not impounded. Maybe because I'm following the law. Don't use that they pick on minorities crap because I am one and I look like it too. If you have your papers in order and driving legally you have nothing to worry about.

If the department makes a little money out of lawbreakers why should I have a problem with it? I followed the law, maybe you should do so too. It's in all of our best interest.

It is unlawful for the departments to NOT publish the times and locations of the stops. The Court has also required that the police not chase you if you try to avoid the checkpoint. If you cannot legally avoid the checkpoint, it is unlawful. If you are stopped you can simply ask to leave. They won't like that, but if arrested for asserting your civil rights, you could end up owning a police station.

Police may not stop your car for the sole purpose of examining your drivers license.

It's not the job of law enforcement to "make money."

The United States imprisons more people than any other country on the planet. "the land of the free" is the home of the jailed. There are several reasons for this obscene statistic. One of them is that there is a lot of money to be made in locking people up, fining them, harassing them.

These DUI checkpoints are simply an end run around the constitution. A way to make "illegal stops" not only legal, but a commonplace and every day profiteering activity.

Giving up your freedom so willingly may be in your self interest. But it is not in mine. This country was founded upon some very radical ideas. One of which was that

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

I guess you believe that you are perfect and never break the law, and that those who do, deserve what they get. That's just what an out of control government wants you to believe. Everybody breaks the law at some point. Including you.

Here's a good quote from the following website:

http://www.roadblock.org/

"A free and open society that champions individual liberty and personal responsibility---the kind of society we try to tell the world the USA represents, cannot condone the arbitrary stopping, interrogating, intimidation and searching of citizens whose only crime is to be peacefully traveling a public highway. Roadblocks, as used in the US, are designed and intended to use fear, intimidation, and inconvenience to expedite a government edict or a political agenda. They have a net zero influence on public safety. But, even if there were a "safety benefit" related to roadblocks, it would not outweigh the negative totalitarian nature of this practice."
