I've lived in LM my entire life aside from going away for school. I now own a home in LM in the same tract that I grew up in as a kid. I am seeing a distinct increase in the amount of incidents and shady characters that frequent the city limits. It seems like we hear helicopters at least once a week now and my wife's car has been burglarized. I can't help but think that people from Norwalk/Santa Fe Springs/Whittier are creeping into LM and bringing our property values down. I praise the city leaders as often as I can, as this city has stayed fairly nice and held its own as being a solid place to live and raise a family. Honestly, the city leaders are the only reason why LM looks and feels like such an upgrade over Norwalk.

The question is how much longer can they keep LM superior to the ghetto Norwalk? Only time will tell, but I am already looking to move further away and into the OC. It really is sad that there are so many uneducated, unmotivated, and immoral people that make it impossible to keep a neighborhood nice.

"superior to the ghetto Norwalk"? have you seen the intersection of LM/Imperial? the closed up gas station is brutal. just hope it doesn't sit there like the other shell stations did at Imperial/Sta. Gertrudes and LM/Mulberry, or turn into a series of auto repair shops.

how about sorry state of the retaining walls that line LM Blvd and ST. Gertrudes? different colors, materials, leaning over, etc.- AWFUL

take some pride in the city, City Hall!

Do you really want the City to use your tax money to pay for all those walls on private property? The City never built or maintained those walls. The property owners are responsible for them. Maybe you think there will be some Santa Claus type from the State or Federal government who will show up with the cash. and, how is the City responsible for businesses that fail in the current economic downturn? The City has maintained high standards for businesses. I see no reason to believe they will compromise their high standards now.

Maintained High Standards for businesses? What planet are you on? You must not have gotten out lately. As for the walls, across Imperial Unincorporated Whittier got new walls put in and they do not even have any elected officials representing them. What about La Habra and their nice walls along Imperial Hwy that were put in a few years ago?

is the city powerless to ensure that a business doesn't clean up after itself once it folds? they don't hesitate for a second to send one of their public safety officers to a home if there is peeling paint, overgrown landscaping, etc. The former Shell sites are at gateways into the city, but were/are allowed to languish in states of disrepair, as was the crossroads center for years.
if you're satisfied to allow the city to turn blind eyes to this type of issue, then we'll soon join the asthetic ranks of areas like Norwalk and Unincorporated Whittier.

. Seriously Lm is not just white people. So let's not get race involved. But I went to lmhs as well and the wealthier kids did get into drugs and most got away with it at school but that's not what this post is about. I've always took pride with growing up in Lm. But lately there has been so much construction going on,on Lm blvd and imperial. If you other people have been so concerned about why haven't you gone to city hall and seen there new construction plans they have planned for imperial hwy??? New businesses and loft apartments kinda like uptown whittier but newer.

I have lived in LM my entire life...the only thing I do here is grocery shop....No restaurants (Mr. V's is the exception)no malls. We do most of our eating/drinking/shopping in Brea. Sad too but that is the city's fault for limiting business.
Oh, and before anyone points out the Elephant Bar and Northwoods; the first has gone downhill and the second is WAY overpriced....

Yes, I am serious..........I'm not calling out any specific races buddy. The point of my post was to voice my concerns with the downfall of the city. I am white, but I have plenty of Hispanic, black and Asian friends. I work in LA so I actually deal more with other ethnicities then I do whites! I don't think I'm better than anyone and consider myself level headed and humble. Funny how your message really does prove my post is correct....

The city does have plans to make exterior walls uniform. I'm interested to see how that turns out. I've always hoped they would put up the large sound wall, light beige walls that are found on Imperial in La Habra. Looks like we're in a transition phase with the crossroads center being redeveloped, the shopping centers on imperial at Santa Gertrudes need to be redone next.
