I really miss the ground beef tacos, tostadas, and salsa. Remember the avocada catchers on the patio? Try Mi Casa in Costa Mesa for salsa-been going there 30 years.

Remember Sandy's was up on Central to begin with, then moved down near the corner of Central and Brea Blvd, then downtown before closing.
Their closing brought the extinction of their unique one-of-a-kind French dressing.
They could've bottled that stuff and made millions!

Hi,

I run a small blog about Brea Canyon. It's my understanding that Sandy's casita was at the mouth of Brea Canyon (Brea blvd and central would place it there) If anyone would be kind enough to send me some info on Sandy's that would be great. Simply send me an email at [email protected] (delete _)

I'll give you credit for the info that you give me.

Thanks,

Corey

I replied:
Corey, that is correct. my buddy Steve Lewis worked there in the mid early mid 70's. They were south of the mental hospital on Brea Blvd, and the "Joe's Special burrito" was $1.65. The most wonderful pork and green Chile burrito topped with melted cheese! I have never come close to it anywhere (and still have cravings)! since the Marques sisters let Sandys go out of biz, not even trying to sell it so it could continue? This was a great disservice and loss for all their customers I'm sure!!

I grew up eating there when it was next to Little Home Dairy, before the psyc hospital was there. After pounding a Joe's special you'd go next door and buy a box of milk. Yes, a 2.5 gallon box that would fit in your fridge. Both places ruled!!!

Oh ya, it was just north of the intersection of central and brea blvd, right there as you entered the canyon.

Thanks for this thread! I was only 3 or 4 and had my 1st enchelada, beans & rice meal there! It's my fave Mex meal to this day. So sad to learn its gone, but the memory remains!

I loved the place as a kid. Our horse club, The Fullerton Recreational Riders, would ride our horses there and they had tie rails and water buckets in the back for our horses. I watched Secretariat win that race by 32 lengths there in the early 70's.

I used to go to this place with my Grandfather and we would get it to go. He would take everything out of the bags and check it. Joes special was the best. Much later I found out my wifes brother in law would take them all there for dinner. We probably saw each other there as kids but we would come from la habra to get this good food. Nothing compares today but la esquina was good as was Rudy's all gone now.

I used to work at the Mobil gas station on the corner and they had a take out window on the side and had their tacos almost everyday
