LMHS Girls Varsity soccer are Suburban League Campions and will be one of the top seeds in the CIF playoffs.
Boys Varsity, who were 2010 CIF finalists, placed 3rd in a very tough league. Their first round game should be against a 1st place team from another league and will be a good test of their ability to advance deep into the playoffs

LMHS boys travel to North Torrance for a tough 1st round match, Friday, Feb 18th
They will have a tough road to go in the bracket they are in. With Cresenta Valley and powerhouse El Rancho on the horizon

El Rancho is a current CIF Team to beat, & my friend was there when they lost; his said, possesion, ball mov't finish every chance you get will make the difference. most of the top seated teams don't play long ball....

El Rancho has not been playing well lately. They gave up three goals in league to Pioneer. Pioneer is a very average team. The Ranch needs to play with more passion.

Pionner; lost to Cal H., and is ranked lower than L.M.

El Rancho had already sewn up league so they had a little let down.
Their only lose this year was to Cal Hi. And Cal has the ability to play with the best. Their problem (Cal) is they can't play consistent.

Regardless if LM gets to the quarter-finals the Ranch will be there waiting, they are that good.

fyi....during summer league it was smart for L.M to have played in the same program as El Rancho because L.M got to see their style and kept a very close game. so close that they were the top 2 Teams amongst the others. L.M.played well and it came down to making mistake for the victory. which it ended in a 1 goal game in favor of El Rancho. I believe L.M can make it happen..

Although many varsity players play in the summer leagues most of the upper level players stick with their club teams. As that's where the real training and exposure is.

The summer league is not even close to any real indicator as to how good a regular season team may be.

maybe at gold level leagues, but LM has been able to keep a high % during summer program.

Summer league is for 'tryout' purposes, at least where my boy plays. kids on the cusp of varsity play get a chance to show whether they are capable. if they want to better themselves, kids should be at club level - SILVER-ELITE AT LEAST - in order to measure themselves against common skill levels. once in HS, they'll be facing rec-level hacks to ODDP-level stars. club will help them mentally as well as physically, IMO.

What age is too soon to go to club, what age is too late?

Start in 7th or 8th grade. First year in high school is too late.

U9 is the entry level for Club teams
Most club programs have tryouts in Jan/Feb then then kids they pick play in the Spring season to show what they got.
The Juventus program in LaHabra allows entire teams to come on board. These are usually rec all-star or signature teams that are ready, in their eyes at least, for the leap to real competitive soccer.

It is never to early to play club if your kid can handle it.
