"She said the additional reported cost of the department was due to factoring in pension payments and the cost of unfilled positions."
Why would you factor in the cost of unfilled positions that have been vacant for years? Sounds like someone is falsely inflating the ACTUAL Police costs....let's ask the city finance director...oh wait, we can't because she abruptly quit in December......let's just ask the "interim finance director" oh wait, we can't ask him either... he quit after just 2 weeks. Sounds like some shenanigans are going on....

Keep the Baldwin Park Police Department!
Cut the pay for workers in the city! Not police!
We need Police not Sheriff!
Keep the Police for Baldwin Park
#3 Feb 14, 2013
Get rid of the Baldwin Park Police Department already. We want the Los Angeles County Sheriffs.
#4 Feb 14, 2013
Keep the police. Sheriff sucks

So Marlen did you have a sex change and a name change now. Wasn't Richard your third husband you abused you piece of crap. We will not let the city go in debit with a big balloon payment thirty years from now because you and your twin Monica don't like the police.

Keep the police!!! What I've seen from the sheriff's department is not very convincing.

I lived in Baldwin Park for years, still visit the San Gabriel Valley, although my home base is now Reno, NV. The Sheriffs are corrupt as hell, re-think this one. Also, if you have elder healthcare stories from Cal, take a look at my blog www.dontgrowoldinreno.com
I hope Baldwin Park renews itself in better ways than this.

The three Amigos are willing to put your city in debit for life and not let you know what they have done. Please listen to the last council meeting audio towards the very end. The three Amigos wouldn't allow Pacheco to put the truth in the BP Now only on line where no one can see the truth. The three Amigos are hiding the truth from the public and they don't want the public to know how much money they are not saving.
If they say it is to good to be true then don't believe it nothing is for free or cheaper and how can it be better. These vicious women are willing to sacrifice your city money and your children's life's because of their hatred that the police don't support crooked politicians. Talk to your neighbors come to the council meetings and see how disfunctional the council is.

I want our own police department but I suggest that the city council stay out of running the day to day operations.
The Sheriff will cost more money and will not give us more for our money. The response time will be slower and if things are happening in other cites they will use our units to cover for other cites to.

Where would you like them to cut? Even if we assumed that keeping the BPPD was a good thing, how do you expect to do it?
The PD is currently 70% of the entire budget. We hear all the time from the PD that their staffing levels are too low. So despite having low staffing levels, the PD is still 70% of the budge. Where should we cut? Stop paying the City Council? The ENTIRE administration budget (city council, CEO, city attorney, city clerk, human resources) is THREE PERCENT of the entire budget.
Do the math. The BPPD is unsustainable.

Richard, Richard, Richard you giant fool ! Don't you see whats going on in Bolen? The Wetbacks wannabe gangsters are taking over thinking this is Mexico. Shooting at each other, innocent people who have nothing to do with their wannabe gangsta lifestyle. The quality of life is Baldwin Park is comparable to living in a society with no morals, ethics, or goals ! All these people do is drain the city resources, education resources, medical resources. I say bring in a 53ft trailer from ICE and clear these dregs of society out and re-group our city council, PD and thrive ! I feel very sorry for you if you go Sheriffs, they have too many contract cities to patrol. On a typical Saturday night when shots are flying and people are dying they are gonna have an extended response time, Richard how would you like your family member to be a victim and be standing there waiting for Sheriffs to arrive??? Think about it, Support our Police and help the cause !

The police are 42% not 70% and we have two finance directors who quit when forced to give the real numbers. Lets think about this the city manager creates these magical numbers and has other people sign the documents and the first finance director quit when forced to give up the true numbers and then the interm finance person quits in two weeks because of the city manager. The city is lying on the budget because Marlen And bimbo Monica Garcia want the police destroyed because they won't politically support them with campaign funds. Monica Gsrcia has no education and no job and she claims to know hats best for the city . Ha Ha Ha
Then you have a security guard for a mayor who has been bankrupt personally before running the city and let's not forget dragon queen Marlen just recently demoted twice and just a clerk now.
I wonder do you think these three losers can run a city well look at it we pay the highest retirement to city officials and we even pay lifetime medical to stupid council people this has to stop.

Name me one other city in the entire state that has their own police department with a similar sized budget and population.
Bet you can't.

This just LA County. The entire state will be too long. You should go outside and see the world. It is vast.

Manhattan Beach 35,678
Monterey Park 60,269

That is only population. I said with same size budget. You include cities that have a budget that had twice the size of BPs revenues like West Covina.

I know reading may pose a hazard to your ability to understanding the world, but of the cities listed, 40% match Baldwin Park in demographics and budget. Looking at general fund per capita they are ideal. Do not hurt yourself, but read and learn. It takes work and sometimes an ability to see that others are able to manage.
Identify the cities that have LA County Services in the same demographic pool and see what they have for left over city resources. Look at it like this; do you send all your money to your home mortgage company and ask them to send back what is left over? That would be stupid and that is what the council majority is planning.

Cut Parks and Rec.(privatize it)
Cut lifetime medical benefits for council members
Cut retirement pay for council and city managers
Cut off Cog membership
Cut councils stupid conferences that cost a fortune in membership, airfares and hotel.
Cut out the council free Internet service and free medical insurance each month
Cut out the 185.00 dollars a council meeting council gets over and above their 600.00 dollar a month pay. What a rip off
Cut out Monica Garcia's coffee and protein meals charges
There's your cuts now go tell these greedy politicians no more sucking on the city's tit.
The only cut the council did was cut out their free dinners at every meeting.

Your arrogance and attempt to condescend to me are cute, but do not change the facts ont he ground.
40% of the cities listed DO NOT match Baldwin Park's budget. Some may have a similar general fund number, but have an overall budget that doubles or triples that of Baldwin Park. And per capita? Then there is absolutely no city in the State that mirror's Baldwin Park in the entire state using that metric.
I read fine. You're just trying to pull a fast one with the numbers.
The reason I asked the question is because I know the answer. There isn't one in the entire state.
#21 Mar 4, 2013
You want to privatize parks and recs? how do you think that would work out?
Greedy politicians, huh? Let's look at the numbers:
2011 Total actual General fund Expenditures :$22 million
Administration (includes, city council, city manger, treasurer, city clerk, city attorney and human resources:$900,000
Parks and Recs and community services:$3 million
POLICE: 16 Million (and rising).
So you can cut all the council items you want, it'll be liking emptying a swimming pool with a thimble.
