Where's the gameplan from our Mayor to begin to cleanup the streets? The public outcry began when Tyler was killed and still no clear direction from any of our leaders?

The movement has to continue to grow. If safety in our community is our real goal we must all unite. More people must show up to every public meeting possible and demand a plan. Don't allow these deaths to be in vain we have to hold our officials accountable and get a real plan to clean up this mess rolling NOW!!!

There should at least be increased patrols and a major warrant and probation sweep through all of santa cruz. A show of force can go a long way to cooling the streets.

Listen to the people give us a choice on this sanctuary city status put it to the vote.

why is this confusing? Why is there not outrage and revenge visited upon the scum who perpetrated this act. If this were my son, there would be no Mexican gang banger not afraid for his life about now.

<quoted text>He doesn't care! It's all about retirement, benefits and his free healthcare. A lot of gov't workers and union people are just in the job for the benefits in santa cruz, and healthcare and just can't wait to retire. Once they get into office in this town, they don't do their job!
And they never leave. They've got their own little "click" going for them and they just play musical chairs. Citizens of Santa Cruz, have you had enough yet? Novermber will be here soon and every election after that remember these peoples names and vote them out till they are all gone and don't vote in any of their friends....

There is no leadership in Santa Cruz Government. They only respond after the fact. Why wait for this violence to come into your neighborhood? The time to act is NOW !!!!! Mr Rotkin is an incompetent leader. Please look up the meaning of incompetent::::::::#1....lacki ng adequate strength. Now why do you voters keep this man in office? This man has allowed Santa Cruz to become another Sallinas. Just wait until no one wants to live here that has any brains left. Get off your butts and tell the Council your not gona take this anymore!!!!!!!!!!

Shameful. Rotkin could not stop playing the role of 'lecturer' espousing his spurious views on social justice. A true leader would have sought to enlist the growing momentum of the people to effect effective change. Incompetent, petty, and unfortunate.

Gang related killings and other crime will only continue to get worse as the tide of mexicans continues to roll over our state and country. They come here with criminal intent and culture and values (or lack of) not compatible with American society. Nothing will change until the American public has had enough and gets the stomach to throw the mexicans out.

I know Mike Rotkin and he alone is not responsible for everything that is failing in Santa Cruz so give the guy a break. Our city had an opportunity to redevelop the Beach Flats years ago and the City Council (as a group) decided that we couldn't displace so many lower income individuals. We could have developed that area to help support the economy of the City but instead we have created a perfect environment for gang violence. We can write it off as a missed opportunity or perhaps now is the time to take fresh look at what opportunities exist for cleaning up the city.. You can make that choice now and choose and let the current leadership know how you feel. Would you rater see an additional hotel and conference center or a shooting gallery. It's up to you Santa Cruz...

I live just out of town on the West side & I'm afraid to go out after dark. I am a senior & afraid to drive up Mission to get to my house. I am definately thinking of putting the house up for sale & moving out. This Mexican gang stuff has got to end. Send the ones who are here illeagally back to where they belong. Put these punks in jail for the rest of their lives. Maybe we all should form our own gang and go hunting?

The voters of Santa Cruz have had every opportunity to remove the bad from gov't. here.
Yet they continue to vote in idiots to serve their self centered wants.
You got what you wanted. Now you need to get out from under "YOUR" wishes.
Same thing happend in Salinas and will continue to happen to all other towns that choose this path.
History does repeat.
And to those of you who post here with the "ULTIMATE SOLUTION" Put your name on the ballot and help.

My son was mugged by 4 skateboarding gang members a few
years ago. I was surprised that the sentinel did not really
want to print the story due to the fact no one got stabbed,
I told them its about warning the current citizens and residents of danger. They did print the story with some
coaxing.

I think the sentinel does not report lots
of incidence of violence due to the need not
to scare away tourists. I know they did not
really want to print the story of my son
being jumped. But they did after lots of
coaxing.I dont like to go to santa cruz now and
i tell my friends who have kids this story about
down town and my son being mugged. I tell partents
to warn kids of danger, teenagers sometimes think
down town is like dizney land.
