Drive-by shootings and two serial bank robbers, La Mirada just doesn't seem much like Mayberry recently.

Do you think think that La Mirada contracts for enough law enforcement?

Last time I checked they only had three deputies in the wee hours of the morning and weekend days plus a Sargeant that was shared with the Whittier County area. Is this enough. All the cities around except Norwalk have more per capita?

They are too busy stopping all the teens. That is all I ever see them pulled over with.

They put the lazy deputies with tenure in LM because they, the city council and Norwalk station management, think there is nothing to do in LM. So as a reward, if you don't cross the city council, and don't ruffle any feathers, you can go sit on your butt in LM. Read ruffle feathers or PO city council as not do anything like make arrests or enforce criminal laws so as not to generate any complaints. Therefore, if there are no complaints, ther must be no problems with that deputy.

I think we are pretty thin on police. If we had our own department things would be way different. Everyone knows how good 'county' services are.

Look in every county run area and you tell me. We actually get pretty good support for LASD in La Mirada because they don't want to lose this account like they did in Santa Fe Springs.

The exception always proves the rule. The truth is crime is rampant all over and unfortunately La Mirada is not exempt, even if they had more Deputies. I see you on this forum a lot, holding your assumptions as truths. For instance, I find it interesting that you think you know how many Deputies are on duty, when in fact that is not public knowledge. So are you really concerned or just instigating?

Well it is public knowledge as it is a public contract for services. Now the three deputies may change give or take one or two on a night, depending on the day or other circumstances, but three is pretty spot on. Usually LM also has two full time sergeants written into their contract as well, but again, coverage isn't always there and it's highly likely that splitting a sergeant between LM and an unincorporated area during the wee morning hours occurs more often than not. As far as whether having 6 deputies or even 12 on a shift, would that have prevented a particular crime? Who knows, prevented crimes can't be accurately tabulated. Who's to say there wouldn't be 7 bank robberies in LM, if not for the criminal seeing a black and white car driving past the bank at the same time they were preparing to go in? There is no right answer. It depends on resources like money, and where the powers that be choose to spend it. Overall, LM is pretty safe compared to nearby cities. 3 is fine with me in the early morning hours, and those three can call in 300 if need be.

Dear Mr or Mrs Truth, My post says last time I checked meaning things may have changed. I did not present it as fact. But what I will say is I recently left LASD after 15 years so I do know what was deployed up until that point. I will not say doubling the deployment would end crime. But I do think we are thin at times. The cost of contract law enforcement is very excessive when you see the results we get back for our money. A previous post referred to lazy deputies coming to LM or . Yes there are some. But there are also some very hard workers too. But that comes with contracting out. There is not really a vested interest in the community by as compared to staying at one agency an entire career. But just think of this. At 3AM when there are three in the field and everybody is tied up on a family beef and a prowler is coming through your door I want you to know, that 3rd deputy is not rolling by himself to your house. La Mirada has dedicated service meaning cars come in from the outside for emergency assistance only. Believe me I saw it happen plenty over many years becuase at one time there were three general law cars and one traffic through the night. Gary Sloan cut the 3rd general car back in the 90's, but adjustment were made to keep four til 2A.M. Mr truth do I still sound like I'm full of it.

Never said you were full of it, just self-important. Anyone can blame Gary, but Gary was very pro-LE. You must have worked PM's during your illustrious 15 year career (btw, must have been cut short. Hurt your back?), because I can't figure out why you keep harping on the 3am shift, especially when the three criminal acts you refer to happened at other times of the day.

Please people - support your LM Sheriffs. I have many friends who live in Santa Fe Springs. They have majors problems in that city with crime. Its turned into another Norwalk. Please please dont allow WHittier Police to come into our community or be contracted to serve us.
I have been told by numerous people that their response time sucks - an hour to two later if your lucky ( or maybe never). My friends tell me how they tell you to drive to the sub-station and file your report. Then, worst of all, the police officers are straight h0m0s. I have personally seen them act like big weenies and little b1tches towards gang members and real gangsters. Afraid of a confrontation - total bullsh1t. Try that on a LASD cop. Your get your a55 rolled up

we have our own sheriffs dept just not sub station and we have operatio safe streets in effect so why the heck are we having the drive bys? Why isn't any other gang areas being harrssed? because OSs feels they can get info from the same area that is being shot up. Wake up peeps this is serious why hasn't the OSS officers set up some kind of boundary patrol and pulled over the people who don't belong? I can only imagine the reasoning behind the tactics they have incorporated but truth is nothing is going to change this nonsense until they change their tactics that is why they keep coming back they are not afraid of OSS they don't get popped because OSS don't care right? Norwalk station did a heck of job keeping crap like this out of LM so ......

Last time I checked La Mirada is still part of the U.S. and people have the right to drive in, out and through the city without getting stopped just because they don't live her. Lot's of dirt bags live in this city, primarily because their folks never raised them right or moved them out of their homes as adults etc. Q: Who is getting shot and shot at? A: Gangsters (yesterdays suspect is now todays victim) don't get mad at the cops. You voted for these liberal laws and also get pissed when the cops get aggressive. Be a proactive citizen!

After only 15 years with LASD sounds like you're the lazy cop. Why couldn't you be a man and stay on the department longer? Sounds like you went out on mental stress. So now after only 15 years you get to stay home, collecting your worker's comp from the hard working tax-paying citizens and play on your computer all day. WOW what a career you had!

Big Jerk, what a moron you make youself sound like. I was LASD for 20 years and retired a number of years ago, and bought back military time as well.(I was in Army for 8 years, you can generally add up my age if you want.) Therefore, because I didn't stay on for the full 30 years, does that make me a lazy deputy too, or could there be other reasons like job opportunities and unique challenges that might make someone leave LE for a career in the "private sector"? Yes Big Jerk, I have a doctorate and didn't really see where pushing a radio car, filling in an in-service from sick call ins, or taking/investigating a phone complaint on some knucklehead like you was the best use of my education and experience. So go ahead and bag on people who choose to leave LE. It's just a job like any other, you can convince yourself that it's a calling if you wish. But don't bit*h cuz someone else isn't suckling on the county teet like you anymore. Further, how do you know that OCNews isn't a female? Or should she "man" up like you? Moreover, what makes only staying 15 years a lazy cop? There are better paying departments around. Could've moved to one of them, and still is a cop. Retirement pensions transfer or roll-over. Your statement is as weak as your mental aptitude. I'm glad you're not speaking as a representative of a group because you're not only a jerk, but you're an imbecile.

NorthOcNewshound, I noticed you didn't answer my questions. So you did retire on mental stress didn't you? Wow, you've got a BA, when you get a PhD then that might be impressive, any moron can get a BA these days. The tax payers paid for you to go to school, did they moron? Did you get your BA online idiot? So answer the question, why did you retire only after 15 years?

They need to start by cleaning up the shopping center. Too many kids and drugs like in front of the coffee house. They just drive by and look the other way.

I totally agree. The Theater shopping center is horrible. The problem is, the parents will start complaining on these boards that the Police are picking on their kids.

Wow, why are you letting this guy get to you? Your usually more rational than this (even though I don't always agree with you) You don't owe this guy an explanation. As for Big Jerk, I actually agree with some of your comments, but you don't have to live up to your name during delivery.

Small Business Owner, what do you own a porn shop? It seems like you weren't cut out to be a cop only 15 years. So I was right, mental stress or a little back pain that us tax payers are paying for. So you have to feel like a man and be a reserve and work for free? Seems like your the fool. This is how foolish you are, aren't you hiding behind your keyboard too? Also, if you aren't wearing tan and green then you aren't protecting any La Mirada citizens, are you? So you must be O.C. reserve slug
