Back in '93 my brother crashed in a Learjet (with six other people-all fatalities) about six miles close to due south from Rowe, NM. I located the site on Google earth (the scar (the aircraft was flying low and hit at an angle) is still plainly visible) and wondered if anyone with time on their hands would be interested in visiting the site and taking some pics. I think the site may be accessible with a vehicle, at least fairly close. I have no idea who owns the property out there, the Feds? I have the google earth coordinates so the site can be examined initially on google earth. There is a scar at around 7350' on a slope. The aircraft struck nearly flat and then then broke up the wreckage strewing out fanwise up the slope and over the plateau at around 7600' feet. There was no mystery about the flight, basically reckless flying with drugs and alcohol a contributing factor if not the reason.
Current Air crash websites have an erroneous location as 11 Km south of Pecos (roughly 6.9 miles), but the actual distance is 11 miles (17 KM) due south of Pecos, about six miles South/Southwest of Rowe.
I hope to get out there one day (I live in Austin, Texas) but I have no idea if I would have access to the site in any event.
I assume all the wreckage was recovered as part of the NTSB investigation. The aircraft did not explode and all bodies were recovered so the site is not a grave.
Details can be discussed. i don't know if any other planes have gone down near Rowe or if your local newspaper even knew about it as there were no witnesses and no one called the crash in. The crash was discovered by searchers after I called into Alberquerque FAA the second day after the crash The crash was on Sept 5 but no one realized they were missing until my brother's wife did not report to work on Sept 7.
