Can I just point out that Devyn crossed a four lane road and a large median before "running in front" of SUV. You can't tell me the woman didn't notice a young teenager - unless she was on an "important" phone call or texting someone - perhaps changing radio stations!!!!

Yeah, everyone should be constantly on the looout for people crossing the highway in the middle of the night. Because people are visible in the dark...and the highway is actually designed for people to run across, not cars going 70mph.

I agree...I mean....people are killed all the time crossing highways...could it be...that people should KNOW how dangerous that is?

I can't believe that Frustrated can blame the poor girl driving the SUV. Are you kidding? She did nothing wrong and to imply she must not have been paying attention because someone crossed a busy highway at night and got hit and killed is crazy. That young lady will have to live with what happened the rest of her life and to have people like you blame her is horrible.

Devyn was intoxicated and ran across a road and in front of an oncoming vehicle. Choices have consequences. I'm sorry the child was killed but my sympathies lie with the driver.

I am very sorry for your loss. This was a tragic accident whether she was intoxicated or not, whether 620 is a highway or not. Admittedly, it was stupid for her to think she could cross A VERY BUSY ROAD at night but there should be no blame anywhere. Life is weird and crap happens for whatever reason.

I live here. 620 is a busy road that connects I 35 and HWY 183, the two main arteries through Austin. People consistently drive over 60 mph on this road. This woman crossed the road at night on foot in an area that was not designated for pedestrian traffic. Attacking the driver makes no sense. But of course, there's no money to be had if you don't lay blame.

i think that for all who did not know her should keep their damn mouths shut. I know devyn shouldn't have crossed that road but the girl should have been paying more attention. im not the one to blame and i dont think its even necessary. so mind your own business people, get a life, and stop trying to figure this one out.

she was a good person, and one of my best friends.

i love you devyn michelle kimbell
may you rest in peace baby girl <3

How do you know I wasn't paying attention?? How do you know anything about that night??? Were you there??? I understand you are in pain, well guess what, So am I!!!! I may not have known Devyn but she will forever be a part of my life now. I didn't ask for this to happen and if I could go back in time and change even driving down that road that night, trust me, I would. You're right, people should not jump to conclusions about her. I'm sure she was a beautiful person. But, maybe you should take your own advice.

Devyn was not intoxicated just upset and was trying to get home - how dare you make assumptions when you were not with her - she didn't run across the road - a friend dropped her off and she was trying to get home - how unsympathetic can you get - she was someone's baby girl who wont get to graduate, get married , have babbies,... the driver will however. I've driven that road and see kids crossing it all the time. should i assume they are all intoxicated??????????

no one is wanting compensation, again this was an upset teenager trying to get home - you all seem to think someone is trying to place blame, I simply want to point out that it wasn't devyn's intention to "run in front of the trail balzer" - I just think we as driver's knowing that there is a highschool and middle school on one side of the road and a subdivision on the other should take caution and look out for kids and leave the cell phones alone.

First of all, let me tell everyone, I WAS NOT ON MY CELL PHONE. I was not texting. I was not messing with the radio. I was not looking right, left, up or down. I was simply driving to the hospital to stay with my mom. Second, yes, there is a high school and a middle school less than a mile away from where the accident happened BUT it was 10:30 at night, pitch dark cause there were no streetlights. It was in between intersections and a sunday night. You are right, with all those factors in play, I was not anticipating a young girl to run out in front of me. And yes, she did run out in front of me. She may not have meant to or maybe she didn't judge the distance of my vehicle correctly but she was in the road. My vehicle did not leave the road and hit her. People assume that just because you see a cars headlights, that means they can see you. If you have been driving long enough, you know that is not true. Whether 620 is a "highway" or not is irrelevant. It's just a busy, dark road. This is the last time I will respond to any comments or even look at this site but I did feel the need to defend myself alittle as well. You can take it for whatever you want. You may agree or disagree with me or want to argue but there is really no point. I was there with her, you weren't. I may not know why she was there but I was there and I know what happened. I will forever have that night etched into my memory. I agree with previous comments, I wish people would stop trying to figure it out. It was an accident. I'm sure her family, friends and those who knew her just want to remember the way she was and not the circumstances to which she passed.

This poor deceased young lady was allegedly upset over a misunderstanding with a friend. She apparently asked to be let out of the car she was in, then called her mother to come get her. Apparently the mom did, but was headed in the other direction, so pulled onto the side to do a u-turn on 620...late at night, that (while not legal) should not have been a problem. The fact that she didn't take the turn apparently caused the daughter to run towards the car....it would seem likely the mom did not u-turn because she saw a car coming. Imagine that you were present when this happened to your daughter? Better yet, don't imagine...no one would be able to conjure up what that kind of agony is like.

Folks, this is a tragedy. For everyone. Please let these anguished folks rest in peace. They have enough to deal with without all these so-called pundits waxing eloquent and judgmental.

Christine, I don't know you, but hope you will find serenity. The same to everyone involved. You are right not to read this tripe.

Devyn's family--our prayers remain with you. I say a silent prayer everytime I drive past her cross.

My heart goes out to the mother. She was being a good mom and getting her daughter. Sometimes people just don't think clearly. God knows i've ran out into dangerous situations lost in emotion or in a rush. I was just lucky not to be hurt. It's no ones fault. Just the way life is.

Daily Horoscope for December 28

Pisces

This is another good day to be tactful, and if anything you'll be even more successful than you were yesterday. This is not to be sneezed at, so seize the opportunity to talk to people who can sometimes be very touchy or who need to be handled with kid gloves. If you meet someone who's older or more influential than you, you'll be a big hit with them.
