What is going on with the kids now days.It seem like the violence and gangs are getting ahold of our kids at a very early age.My 12 year old son was attending the round lake roller rink 2 weeks ago and was attacked by 2 kids and was hurt pretty bad.He is a good kid and I know he's not an angel but he dont get into a lot of trouble and he didnt deserve that .No child does.He didnt know these boys and according to the police the gangs are really bad up there.I just think it's time for us to gain back control of our youth before it's to late.

Round 'em all up (the gangs), send them to boot camp and then Iraq...front line. If they act up, they may find out what "friendly fire" is all about. Bet they come home humbled...if not, throw 'em in jail.

I wish I had a good answer. It is cool to be a thug today. I always wonder what the parents of these thugs are like -- are they intimidated by their own kids so they don't attempt to get them under control, or do they support the lifestyle and think it is good for their kids to be "tough"?

My opinion is this --- they took prayer out of the schools, made things politically correct, there is less parental involvement in many families, God isn't #1 anymore with lots of people, and there's too much hate in the world. It's only going to get worse. I don't think anyplace is any better or worse. Good luck!

People want to blame the schools and everybody else but it starts at home.My kids know if im not around be on your best behavior.Parents well most of them just send the kids outside just to not deal with them,so they are going wild without structure. All I know is im not gonna sit back and wait until mine are badly hurt.I will die protecting mine at all cost!

A lot of these gang-bangers wear their crucifixes, rosaries, Virgin Mary t-shirts and think that God is on their side.

There was never prayer in any school I went to and I turned out fine. Religious education is the responsibility of the family. Moral education is the responsibility of the family. Families are not doing that, so schools have to teach character education so that hopefully the future society is going to have some people that care about someone other than themselves.

The time spent correcting social problems in schools take away from the time that can be spent teaching what they are supposed to be teaching. Kids that come to school with the right values, ethic and behavior end up suffering because of those that don't.

This type of behavior has been going on for longer than most people will admit. When my son was in Jr. High (Magee Middle School) he was walking down Cedar Lake and only had to go as far as the corner of North Channel. He got as far as Woodland Dr.....and 2 older kids were walking in the opposite direction and one of them sprayed MACE in my son's face. That was my FIRST experience of the "changes" in kids. How long ago was that? My son's now 30...but the image of that day is still so clear.

I agree with you. No one wants to admit how long this has been going on. I am 34 and went to these schools. It was happening then. Gotta teach your children at a young age right from wrong. Keep them occupied with things that interest them and pray with them at home and take them to church. I let the neighborhood kids hang out at my house. I always know my son's friends and make judgement on who he can and cannot hang out with. Let the schools teach and let it be our responsibility to raise our kids.

Daily Horoscope for December 30

Scorpio

If you've been surrounded by people during the past few days you welcome the chance to have some time to yourself today. It's a wonderful excuse to do something really indulgent in private, such as scoff a whole box of chocolates while watching a favourite film on TV. But make sure you destroy all the evidence before everyone else comes home!
