Unfortunately this is becoming the norm for many towns in New Mexico and probably the nation. So much for the war on drugs. Methamphetamine is the big one here.

Thats the price we paid after 9/11 tougher scrutinety on employees hiring qualifications. And naturally drug screening and background checks went up price wise.

The story about Roswell having trouble finding workers to pass drug tests mentions wal-mart and cable one. Is there any way to contact these employers to apply? Are there any others?

Some of us that can pass the drug screening cannot find the jobs. Give us a chance.

Marijuana should be legal in my eyes and alcohol should be illegal ...

marijuana is natural, alcohol is not, it is made constructed just as meth is made constructed.

but pot is nothing compared to the drugs most seek today.

and besides how many people do hear about who have killed anyone by driving stoned.

I'm guessing for those that can pass a drug screening, they would rather take a better AND higher paying job than work at McWally World.

I should move to Roswell and sell clean pee, I will make a ton of money. People will be employed, businesses will get a workforce. Itís a win win situation.

You are a complete idiot, this has nothing to do with post 9/11. Employers have been doing drug screens for years. Would you own a company that used equipment that could possibly harm or kill someone and not insure that your workforce is drug free. What do you do for a living? I bet the US government could care less how laced-up you were at work. Itís solely a matter of liability in a litigious society not national security.

By the way post 9/11 security is a joke created by corporations to pump high dollar technologies into everyday life and a potential for eavesdropping on law abiding citizens. They canít stop the overflow of illegal on the border, or the numbers of identity thefts they commit. They never prosecute anyone for it. Maybe because the thieves are smarter than them, they beat their best technologies. But, some jack-off at the NSA could probably recall what I text my girlfriend last night.

An abusive government with this kind of power, it is easier to crackdown on your own citizens than foreigners breaking the law.

I spent my adolescent years in Roswell and moved away back in 1979. The attrition rate of that little town is staggering. Dozens of my high school friends have died from drug overdose, murder, or car accidents. It seems in Roswell you are either a drug addict, alcoholic, or born-again Christian. This is a town of wide extremes and not much "normal" in the middle. I think it is probably the norm of where America is headed. In these far-away isolated towns, where television is your major companion, folks have a tendency to go the "stupid" way... drugs or Jesus.

For Roswell to be in the predicament it's in is no surprise to me, after all it was NMs biggest supporter of McCain/Palin.

How was it some poster put it back in October? "Itís McCain/Palin country with 10 signs on every block of Main Street showing support, weíre gonna win.Ē

lots of small towns have this going on and they are the ones talking about it.the drug problem will never go away it has become a business now .it all about supply and demand more the latter as we know . that town needs a good cleaning but everyone is scared to do any thing about it .i was there one night and the shooting that goes on at night is unreal but these are just punks acting bad with guns .i beleive that the police there are scared to show up right after a call so they wait a good while to get to the schene and try to figure out what happened.but as for the drugs and the work force that they have it will never change .they would rather sell dope that hold a job and if they do work its only a front.
